  1. Yup. "Yacht Rock" is an apocryphal reference. But you can't blame the musicians for the fans that they attracted. I happy lived through that era, and the genre of music now called "Yacht Rock" did find itself very popular at summertime pool parties and at the beach, and among the Gin-and-Tonic crowd since it tended to steer clear of some of the "harder" elements commonly used by Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith and even the Doobie Brothers of the Tom Johnston era. While the musicians commonly associated with "Yacht Rock" may cringe at the reference, they have to admit that they concept brought them back from the abyss. Prior to Sirius (and others) dedicating a channel to "Yacht Rock", many of these songs had slipped into the distant memory. But now they are once again getting a lot of airplay and reaching new fans.
