We always eat our Vegemite for breakfast lunch and tea.

Moving from death by cardiac arrest to death by self inflicted gunshot wounds

This should be part of the citizenship test. A tiny amount for your first temporary visa. A thin spread for your permanent residency. By the time you're going for citizenship, you're expected to enjoy a 1:1 ratio of toast and Vegemite.

So... Don't mention the war? More seriously, yeah, if you were a dissident in Germany, what they did to others was what they were doing to people like you first

Which ones that didn't become allies after being conquered and having puppet governments installed are you thinking of? The main one other one that comes to mind is Italy. Which is definitely tagged as a Nazi ally. And Russia, which has unjustly escaped this taint.

I had experience with this state in Hong Kong. What's happening (or happened) is so far from what's normal it really takes time to absorb that it's happening. You need to get into a state where you'll believe anything (and recognise that anything can be, and probably is, true) before you can understand and accept that it's real. Otherwise it's just a dream. I'd had the benefit of extensive exposure to mainland China to help me believe and process it. Other expats just.... Didn't. They were in their bubble. And as bad as that was/is, it's nothing to what went on in Germany(yet. Obviously if you go to another part of the PRC, the Uighurs are almost exactly what went on in Germany and the world really has problems understanding that)

@g.belanger8302 that happens with any change. We can only really understand its impact on hindsight. Everything before that is basically an educated guess at best.
3
That's one of the things I think made that a game changer. We realised that people just like us were capable of doing this, and it was a path we were going down ourselves
3
The UK is unusual in having actual successful former colonies. Not perfect, but guaranteed, but significantly greater than the 0 everyone else that comes to mind had

Or any understanding at all

@kevinjhonson5925 seriously? Mine cost about $100 tailored. Plus the can of scotchgard that went onto it soon after

So that makes it alright then? Act as if it's ok because of what their grandparents did? No lessons should have been learnt in the century between the trail of fears tears and these trials?
1
@effingdingus I'm trying to figure out your point. What about that the great grandparents of the people in charge did a thing makes deciding that thing is bad crazy?

Early ones. My guess is non ferrous metals. Or insufficient quantities.

It's even the same with people in the west dealing with people who are simply shameless liars. Even that's difficult for us to really understand. We can't wrap our heads around that someone could lie in such a way that they don't even begin to care if they're believed, so we believe them (at least until it's really, really, really, really hammered into us that everything they say is a lie) And that someone lies is so much easier to process than this. Like selling someone's organs on the black market. You can't be serious. Except that yes, the leaders of a major country are literally selling harvested organs on the international black market. And that's despite looking like nothing more offensive than a bland version of Winnie the Pooh.

He's Whistler's brother?
1
@IdentityCrisis1581 well, if he's the son of Whistler's mother. Or is HE Whistler?

@bhollins3556 ?

@kelvinpang438 which they did after first being Hitler's military allies. Which is 100 percent something which should be remembered. Stalin and Hitler were allies before they were enemies.
1
@m.c9146 so basically, border regions of a country surrounded by enemies was occasionally hit in an era of bad navigation.

The Soviets died of laughter. "you call that a nuclear accident? THIS is a nuclear accident!"

My life is awesome. Coffee is the enabler of awesomeness.

One of the members of the American branch of my family (split off long ago, obviously) won the medal of honour in that. Which is a lovely talking point until it gets to the last word in the name of the event.
1
That's what I came to ask.

@WanderingMiqo the first should be taken as an opportunity to read. The second..... It must be bad grammar. I can't make heads or tails of it.

Things that happen in the west or west aligned countries are always worse than things that happen in corrupt dictatorships
