The CCP, which relies on economic advancement for its legitimacy, and which was recenttly trying to use climate change talks as a bargaining chip with the USA (meaning that this would backfire on them badly) is doing this because.... Why?

@stopgeoengineeringus7513 They use "cooperation" on it as a negotiation chip because they know it's something Western politicians care about, and if they act is if they might one day pretend to care about it as well, they can get concessions in other areas. Part of the "punishment" for the Pelosi visit was pulling out of climate change talks.

That's absolutely a thing that would be happening if it wasn't for that when things are going well in the PRC, the CCP takes the opportunity to throw its weight around and hurt other countries. You'd also need them to have not dammed the Mekong river and be restricting its water supply. Chinese people are suffering and that's horrible, but the PRC is a threat and in the zero sum game the CCP has created, what hurts them helps others. They should install a civilised government. One that the international community can learn to trust will act in a good way. One that hasn't turned the PRC into an enemy state that will either be destroyed or will destroy them. Not to mention one that uses climate change talks as a political bargaining chip, rather than approaches it as something that also benefits it.
