I'm developing my own small organic 'food forest' yard that I can live off of without any external inputs.

@WhiteWolfeHU Who cares what NWO wants? Strange that they'd want me out of the consumer loop, no money in it, but OK. And what the hell would I do with even 1 cow, couldn't consume that much in 2 yrs, but if I want a little beef I can trade it for avocados, pecans or any number of surplus products.

@danielturner9832 I've been producing shiitakes for about half a decade but it's the only one I've had success with, many wild types all over my half wood chipped yard, wine caps I'll have to look into. I'm approaching 100 fruit/nut trees bushes and vines with a more room to grow, just getting into winter annual/perennials greens and such. Lettuces, herbs, etc., grew fantastic after some hasty planting in November last yr. Started when purchasing modest place 15 yrs ago bc it seemed a shame not to use the amazing soil we have, endless rock free loam you can't find the bottom of, maybe 20 or 30 ft deep. Plus very long growing season.

@gibotje It's also beautiful and fun, I quit watering my shrinking lawns entirely this season, going to attempt drought tolerant and mowing free ground cover. I have islands of high density food plants with open spaces and wide meandering paths mixed in. Citrus yr round and expecting same with avocados in a few yrs out of 15 different types. Citrus are super easy here with a little frost risk when trees are small...imagine never buying limes, lemons, oranges again but having on the tree when needed.

@TANQ31 Summer water is the one thing I'm going to struggle with half the yr., not anytime soon but rain capture after I build new house.

@danielturner9832 Oh...I've developed a taste for abundant dandelions in salads and looking to do the same with purslane and maybe common mallow and a couple other "weeds".

@danielturner9832 You got me beat big time on acreage and animals and especially the stream! I grew up on 2 acres with guaranteed yr round trout stream, sure miss THAT, but the climate there was too harsh even for reliable stone fruit production, late frosts at 4500 ft....no way I'd be doing citrus and avos outdoors.

@danielturner9832 Interesting! Sounds like you won the lottery but better. :D I need to road trip that part of the country one day. I respect and enjoy the Amish culture, the ultimate Libertarians in a sense, kids start working young, self sufficiency, don't seem to push their philosophies on others, practice what they preach...will survive a civilization catastrophe if anyone can. America IS Great bc many different cultures can carve out their own niche and thrive. (not to neglect a litany of other factors)
