Gotta believe the shutdown has more to do with the protests than the triggering event itself.
24
Praise God for causing the plane to crash!
23
Too bad God caused the plane to crash.
13
And that was the slogan that trashed the West. Prior to that simplistic toxic dogma, ranchers, loggers, and before that, Natives would burn it seasonally so we never got to the treacherous conditions we have today with fuel building for decades until catastrophe is inevitable.
7
EXACTLY. That's the real problem here.
5
Easier said than done. Would you put your life on the line?
5
@goldenclaw1133 Hat's off from America (realizing our sorry history regarding the Shaw, etc.) and moral support. I understand SpaceX Starlink is going to provide internet but I don't know how they'll get the terminals to you all.
5
@Christopher Jacobs Yeah these lands were born to burn, natives knew it and lit them seasonally, then ranchers and other settlers continued the practice. THEN Smokey Bear mythology took over and devastated the landscape pushed by our all knowing wise governments. Either burn them frequently at a time of our choosing or this is the result of decades of fuel build up and mismanagement.
4
Yet 150 MILLION Americans, many with young kids, choose death via bad eating habits and sedentary life. I have far more respect for Potter than ubiquitous porkers.
4
Thank the MAN not some random childish fantasy entity.
4
The wonders of toxic Abrahamic religions.
3
Exactly. It's the shutdown--too many with nothing to do and many angry from losing their jobs, etc.
3
Most don't have the gumption to go after it you mean.
3
@joephysics5469 Lounging with French fries and doughnuts IS actively exiting , only diff is:::: it's EASY, common and accepted today by those manipulated by advertising and corporate media drama. Most of us unfortunately to one degree or another.
3
A dozen guards with machine guns could fix this.
3
Sanders is phony like most politicians, I don't see any similarities.
3
Michael Morton A couple have already plead guilty to felonies, Trump admitted to obstruction of justice (jail time for that normally) and no innocent person ever proclaimed innocence so frequently and loudly. Obviously something was going on and it involved Russia and the Trump campaign, we'll see about the rest.
3
Far more respect for Potter than the half million who choose death every yr in the USA instead of avoiding junk food and exercising moderately.
2
The shutdown was obviously unnecessary and recklessly destructive. Many have lost everything or just their retirement or don't know how they are going to survive the next month and are desperate/angry with too much time on their hands and the rest of the population doesn't seem to notice.
2
@yamaldawadad7324 It's cool that a partial solution is at hand, but most urbanities have lost all connection to wild lands and don't even know that fire is NOT OPTIONAL, it's absolutely necessary. Many native tree species including our beloved redwoods cannot exist without fire ! This must be understood.
2
Paradise WAS NOT REBUILT, only a small part of it. I live next door. More Fake Media BS.
2
It's far more pronounce many if not most other places. NO other nation has as much race diversity as the US.
2
Some 50,000 of them, overwhelmed the capacities of nearby towns. Chico citizens and businesses (not to neglect other areas also) have done a fantastic job of taking care of evacuees the best they can, donations of everything from food, shelter, restaurants giving them free meals, local Sierra Nevada Brewery setting up huge funds and feeding them, thousands of displaced/rescued pets being taken care of by volunteers with donated pet food poring in, on and on and on. That a few thousand are left outside after all motels and rentals and private homes are maxed out isn't too bad. No it can never be enough but people have really stepped up.
2
@riverbankfisher I'm no longer THAT fit at 61, but always been able to run decently (climb trees or whatever) and slim at least. Seems something about winging it that encourages high risk when it could be, maybe--moderate risk. Have brother who has been seriously hangliding since late 1970's, that can be done as safe as any sort of private flight and often is. Don't think wingsuit can be done that safely but cutting things close is for sure eventually going to end badly. Respect for personal choice in the matter regardless. SURE rather have Potter as a friend than a couch potato.
2
Meanwhile in the USA half a million choose death every yr over eating right and moderate exercise. I have far more respect for Potter than lazy porkers--about half the population.
2
Great times we live in and as wrong as we've turned (USA toward USSA) still the best if not only place this can happen. Elon came here for a reason.
2
@johntheux9238 Small skyscraper falling from space, engine bay yellow hot from compressed air at hypersonic speed, an aerodynamic "chine" (fin?) was half trashed yet STILL robust enough to adjust and stick that landing. ASSsssTOUNDING.
2
@joephysics5469 Only every conversation about American mortality. Does that reality bother you?
2
@TTownTim OK. How about this: Abrahamic religions drastically cheapen life on Earth, degrade humanity, undermine the moral fabric of society and personal responsibility. It's high time to out grow bronze age dogmas (any and all dogmas) and instead embrace the effort and necessity of thoughtful consideration and empiricism. Quit being intellectually lazy, its down right dangerous, and in this instance, disrespectful of the individual being addressed in the video.
2
@babeno3777 Is ignorance bliss? I bet YOU'd know! :D I'm actually bowing constantly to over 2000 gods, each as likely to be real as the next just to cover my bases. How about you? What if you got the wrong one, odds are you have. Have you bowed to Zeus, Apollo, Thor, .....JeezAss... the list is nearly endless! SERIOUSLY::: I'm a good person, far from perfect but better than any god I've ever had described to me, so there is no need to fear a just God If I was God I'd SO disrespect all the cowards bowing down to me out of fear or in hope of rewards. That's so goddamned pathetic, truly disgusting. You should be ashamed for pandering to God like that, it's so transparent and INSULTING.
2
@Henry Nahorski Really? But their religion has zero compunction about trash talking my lack of religion CONSTANTLY, as a matter of church policy, and we take that for granted. Better get used to some blow back, some of us have had our fill of being victimized by the crap and we don't feel we have the luxury to be meek about it. And I'm not calling the individuals bad just the faith involved, where as they claim we are personally inferior if not "the devil". So YEAH...I have an obligation to tell it as I see it.
2
Great Again America is astoundingly WEAK.
2
If you could see the response of ordinary citizens and businesses in neighboring towns you'd be very pleased. Everyone has stepped up with every service and necessity you can name, the fact that you only see a few thousand out of some 50,000 is because most of the rest have been absorbed by small neighboring communities, there are no vacancies left in any rentals, motels, etc. A warehouse was recently made available for many of the remainder still outside. It's not easy for small towns to absorb that sort of exodus but we've done a damn good job of it on the private end.
2
@goldenclaw1133 NO shame! SpaceX managed to get Starlink terminals to Ukraine by the truckloads in a matter of days but that's a very different situation. (and Russia threatened Elon's life for it) I wouldn't rule out finding away for you all too but it's going to be much harder.
2
Wild lands mismanagement sets the stage and nature will ignite it eventually with catastrophic consequences if we don't do it first. These lands were born to burn it's NOT OPTIONAL, many species including redwoods cannot exist without fire it's an essential element of the land. Quit being so childishly manipulated by obsolete mainstream media, aka., fake news. Lightening is not new.
2
Thanks from NorCali. I think we are going to do fine and make some significant changes to wild land management, housing building standards (reduce flammability), etc. So often it takes disasters to get things done unfortunately.
2
@otakoedits It may sound odd but there is a way anyone who has Sierra Nevada Brew available CAN HELP, I don't expect it but putting it out there--Ken Groseman (founder and owner of the brewery) has started a new Resilience IPA with all sales going to a fire victim fund, he's also asking for donations from suppliers of hops, etc., and for other breweries to do something similar. Purchase that beer and the money goes to Camp Fire victims fund. (Ken was displaced himself since his residence was in the burn zone, I don't know if he was burned out too, I hope not he has gone over the top to do everything he can for everyone else.)
2
Sure LOOKS like BLM to ME!!!
1
I wonder if he had a post mortality plan for his dog, can't be good for dog to lose his best friend and master.
1
@johnnemesh5459 Are you stupid or just high?
1
@riverbankfisher Meanwhile half a million USA citizens choose death every yr instead of eating healthy and exercising. Why are we not equally terrified of processed food and sedentary life style?
1
Edison left in the dust by now. "Mean tweets", you mean being honest and candid, rare in our cowardly society.
1
Electrifying experience for passengers and pilot.
1
I agree it's the only remedy for the terrorist.
1
@Darbobski NOT to diminish police brutality. I've been a victim of it myself, it took everything I had to avoid getting beat half to death inside the PD station, fortunately I knew their M.O....then I would have been convicted of assault on a police officer to justify the beating.
1
Yeah we had the coolest spring in recent memory and fires consumed 10X more land a century ago, but they were less severe due to frequency and lack of suppression that causes massive fuel build up for decades until catastrophe is unavoidable. But EVERYTHING is climate change today with zero historical perspective or nuance.
1
@kalidilerious Fire is an essential element of American West, most of the nation and other's too. Many native trees can't exist without fire inc. our beloved Giant Sequoias. When Cali joined the Union--that it was smoky was feared an economic inhibitor, around 1880.
1
@remliqa You have NO IDEA what you are talking about. There'd be NO SpaceX without Elon is F'n obvious, beyond that they'd be no where near HERE without Elon at the helm. Quit projecting tiny mind.
1
@TTownTim Make up your mind! You asked for it.
1
@eleusinia_ Hahaha! Great metaphor (is that the right word?) I never heard before. THANK YOU. You just started my week off right, never mind my collapsing stock portfolio. :D)
