  6.  @danielaelmi  Yeah obviously we can only observe, hence the joke. Conceivably there could be a long term strategy to 'tame' super volcanoes - it's a matter of thermal energy dissipation, when they go off, tremendous energy released all at once but distributed over thousands of yrs maybe not overwhelming. Imagine we eventually have the wealth to do massive horizontal drilling projects as close to the magma as possible and cycle cooling water over huge area/volume of of earth, turning it into geothermal electric power on unprecedented scale. Shouldn't that potentially prevent future eruptions? I don't see why not but just spitballing. Figure out how many joules are released on average and harvest at least that much indefinitely. Just an engineering and economic problem.
