Tangled chutes still have significant drag, likely they fell well short of terminal V of a free falling person. Interesting story.

Tell the press it's safe from 50 ft, they can absorb worst of low flying flack.
23
They were profiteering on dangerous drama and asking for it, limited sympathies.

@endgovernmentextremism Tell'em it's a safe ride, that'll cull the mentally weak. Seem to fall for anything anyway.

@johnk4396 The cable steel itself is considerably stronger but much smaller so wing could be far stronger overall, and ballistic speeds tend to be counter intuitive. Note how the 9/11 aluminum airliners flying at similar speeds sliced right thru the steel columns in the Twin Towers, or at least some of them, wing sections may have also been sliced thru on outboard sections while damaging the columns enough to destroy most of their column strength, structural steels are not normally comparable to wire rope steel but similar in strength per unit volume as aircraft aluminum. Still I too expected the plane to be taken down.

Also the wing is a hell of strong "beam" in the fore-aft direction (as apposed to the primary bending load, up and down), the cable may have been half melted, I'd love to see the severed ends to get a better idea how it failed.

Definitely learned his lesson.

Surely many would want to be onboard for best story.

Minor technical point--an overheated firebox; not about melting but steel losing strength with increased temp, those steels will have lost *most*of their strength by "red hot".

Sigh! The good 'ol days when individuals were expected to be responsible for themselves when getting stupid close to such an event. :D

Getting eaten would be best result. 😄

F___ME....best laugh in days. Sometimes corny works. :D

@kreetins Forever nicknamed "Bolt Face".

@someguy5035 I actually prefer the skillful near misses and saves but crashes can be stimulating. :D

Answer: They got STEAMED.

@albertshumate7688 Hmmm...that doesn't sound right to me but definitely IDK. Tangent--sounds like engineers generally, routinely had to compromise between boiler failure risk and "stalling" on an upgrade risk, which could also be dangerous. Apparently this was a rare type event. Said here one guy had argued for more water at last chance, just before he died.

The good 'ol days when you could do real fun things lk that. :D

Imagine they were steamed.
