@johnk4396 The cable steel itself is considerably stronger but much smaller so wing could be far stronger overall, and ballistic speeds tend to be counter intuitive. Note how the 9/11 aluminum airliners flying at similar speeds sliced right thru the steel columns in the Twin Towers, or at least some of them, wing sections may have also been sliced thru on outboard sections while damaging the columns enough to destroy most of their column strength, structural steels are not normally comparable to wire rope steel but similar in strength per unit volume as aircraft aluminum. Still I too expected the plane to be taken down.

Also the wing is a hell of strong "beam" in the fore-aft direction (as apposed to the primary bending load, up and down), the cable may have been half melted, I'd love to see the severed ends to get a better idea how it failed.
