Comments by "Bo McGillacutty" (@Mrbfgray) on "Where 6 Metals Used For Electric Cars Come From | True Cost | Insider News Marathon" video.
They terminate this vid with appropriate brief perspective on that. Battery metals will be endlessly recycled.

Apparently a ton is "used" in oil refining but very little is lost, on the order of one pound cobalt for 6M miles of driving. Cobalt steels are mainly used in cutting/machine tools, that would include automotive production but tiny amounts per car. Regardless BEVs are vastly 'cleaner' even without CO2 considerations. (I don't fear CO2)

@FlorentHenry Almost trivial amount lost but BEV batts will be recycled endlessly also with tiny losses.

@harrison00xXx So you've got nothing, just making crap up to suit your preconceived notions also based on NOTHING.

@vandamonium1731 Do your homework before spouting your speculations. Batt recovery is around 95 to 98% of each element. The elements don't just evaporate, they can be collected. I've worked in metal mine mills where the vast majority of material is nothing but worthless ground rock and yet we get high 90's% recovery, all sorts of miscellaneous other metals mixed in and still we manage to sort it all out via carefully tuned flotation, etc. Any tiny % loss is money down the toilet. In short--you have NO IDEA what you are talking about.

@harrison00xXx CO2 is healthy, are you saying water is worse? What chemicals specifically are you referring to?

Nope. Compare, say 50MPG hybrid to 125MPGe BEV. Can't compete with that with anything. And the 125 goes to the Tesla M3 which blows the Prius out of the water in every way. Unless you charge hybrid at home all the time and never go far, that's not how they are actually used. Economics will sort this out, already has. Hybrids a great intermediate step for last century, not the future or even the present.

@vandamonium1731 Batt pack is extremely high grade ore with 95 plus % recovery. Already being done, old batts worth a grand or two in raw materials. What dilution are you talking about? These are metallic elements they don't "dilute", whatever that means.

@vandamonium1731 Like saying a melted down car body is "diluted" steel. WTH?

@limeyB-star-D Today it has to be a fairly tight sealed garage to commit suicide that way, this ain't the 1970's and prior when that was a very viable way to die. Catalytic converters, modern smog controls work well. But yes I welcome significantly cleaner air from BEVs, (CO the least of it) they are going to dominate simply due to economics alone, we don't need to force it. Likely that mandates actually retard the adoption rate due to proper backlash and all the BS associated with it. Virtue signaling pols can't mandate what isn't already pretty close to economic, they can't mandate everyone own a $100k car. Tesla and Chinese brands have got this, price parity with ICE is upon us. Let the market do it's job. You can make a case for subsidies of BEVs to counter massive petrol subsidies, be better to quit subsidizing fossils but weak pols do do hard, very difficult to even terminate the corn-ethanol fiasco for example.
