Economics will drive the rapid switch to EVs, NO NEED for government meddling. You are living in a previous decade, on a cheap home charger it's overnight, on a supercharger it's about 35 minutes for an additional 250 miles, that will be 15 minutes in a few yrs. How about 125MPGe? Sound good at these petrol prices? While gas costs $80 charging costs $10 (obviously highly variable depending where you live). Government will take credit for what they had nothing GOOD to do with.

Your information is out of last decade. New batts will last 1M miles and cost some $5k to mfg. Things are evolving fast. NO good reason for governments to be involved, better quality EVs will sell themselves in a competitive market place as fast as they can be built, as they are already in Euro, China and USA. (VW an exception as not many want those) Also EVs burn 1/10th as often per mile as gas cars. Update yourself.

@frogmorely Yes but it matters little, ppl will vote with their wallets and before we know it, BEVs will be the poor man's pick for the same reason they keep driving that '94 Civic even while wanting a Camaro. :D

That was many yrs ago. 250 miles in about 35 minutes at a Supercharger going to 15 minutes in a couple yrs. But of course many places are still undeveloped and will be stuck with $80 of gasoline instead of a $10 charge, sucks for them.

@nuclearfishin1185 Dude--I know 1000X more about this than you do. Raw statistics say gasoline cars burn almost 10X more often per mile, and gas fires are much worse in terms of driver/passengers getting torched. Can you name a solitary example of anyone getting burned up by a BEV fire? (a debilitating or deadly crash and then fire are the only examples I know of and they don't count in this context) We have dozens of petrol powerd cars buning up everyday in the USA.

@nuclearfishin1185 Do you ever carry a phone around? Why don't you worry about it spontaneously combusting? Surely you don't ever put it in your pocket!
1
@ThomasLee123 Ever heard of "Writes Law"? I've paid attention to this space for a dozen yrs Sport, probably before you were weaned. Not my job to convince you.
1
That won't age well. NO need for government meddling, EVs will and are selling as fast as they can be built (better ones at least) strictly on free market forces. 125MPGe will be too good to resist.
1
Gas pumps don't work either when electricity dies. I fully support your right to choose but unless you have unlimited wealth, you will switch to EV before the end of decade. (exceptions for those who drive very limited miles per yr) I still prefer my old high revving BMW V8....for now.
1
True today maybe for YOU but not for most and you'll be surprised how quickly it changes for you too.
1
Step out of your outdated bubble. 125MPGe vs 25MPG for blood gasoline, cobalt is no longer required for batteries but it's still mostly used for gasoline refining.
1
@devaconcc9038 YES I have bought into it, literally, and made a modest fortune from it already and it's just getting started. You have NO IDEA what your talking about, start asking questions and learning child. By the time you get it I'll have made a few more $M if not 10M. Bu it's rampant ignorance like yours that helps maintain this spectacular opportunity. So...thank YOU! :D
1
Toyota is going to be scrapped by Chinese and Tesla. Good that yours is old as it will have zero resale soon regardless of age.
1
I switched to EGO battery chainsaw, mower, blower, etc., yrs ago....vastly superior to any gas powered alternatives. I'll never go back to pull cord failures, racket, vibration, fueling, oil, filters and all the other now unnecessary hassles.
1
@gregmatthies8128 If you have a point to make, please do so. Not interested in your expressions of childish ignorance.
1
Yup, and that price is coming unless tariffs are too high. And after a while the ICE vehicle will be sold off too as weekend getaways will be well served by the EV too at vastly lower fueling cost.
1
That'll change before you know it, obviously tons of mass ignorance still but government meddling is redundant at best. EVs will and are selling faster than they can be built simply based on economics--125MPGe is hard to compete with.
1
That may be but soon you won't be able to afford to drive anything else assuming you drive over 5k miles/yr or so. In a few yrs cheaper used EVs will be the poor man's no brainer option. NO NEED for governments to interfere here, they will sell themselves just fine.
1
@jds1275 Newer batteries will last 1M miles with about 25% loss of range, then be treated as high grade ore for recycling. Meanwhile maintenance will be 40% of ICE and fueling about 20%. Soon an EV will be the poor mans choice unless they only drive a couple k miles/yr in which case that '94 Civic can be run indefinitely
1
The joke is that you'll be driving an EV in a few yrs or so, unless you drive very limited miles per yr or you have money to literally BURN.
1
Your feelings don't count. CO2 is good but we need to phase out fossils eventually, NO NEED for government interference here, economics will drive the EV takeover and batts will be 95% recycled endlessly, they are "high grade ore".
