Sure but what about those who got over their head in a McMansion mortgage, or those who took a loan to start a business. Why wouldn't every debt out there be "forgiven", aka., my burden as a responsible tax payer who never took on more debt than I could handle and has none?

@JoshColletta MANY degrees are every bit as unnecessary and unproductive as an oversized house. NOTHING is more important than small businesses in America, who do you think is going to pay for those unpaid loans?! You have also been misled on that. Yes you were brain washed into college as the only way, so was I and I wouldn't trade my engineering degree process for anything. I also paid my own way, never considered loans or family support, took me extra long but I was free of debt, so NOW I have to pay for others who were foolishly naïve and reckless? You should revolt against the system that sold us this false narrative and is now politically capitalizing on it. That starts with Senator Karin, errr.. Elizabeth.

@tabbycat55 I'm all for the bankruptcy option--let the loan companies and loan holders take the hit. Not the taxpayer. Universities should also be at risk, it would reduce their incentive to sell students economically nonviable degrees, but that's not about to happen.

@JoshColletta Many students got scammed by universities, sold on an already saturated degree where there are no good job prospects. I sympathize with that. Advisers trivialized the terrific burden that, say $100k of debt to start adult life with is. Ultimately it was the student's choice that I don't want to pay for, not MY MISTAKE. I'd revamp or eliminate the loan program entirely and do something about the fraud perpetuated at universities and extreme tuition inflation. For decades we as a society have stupidly stigmatized the trades as tho they are somehow less respectable than a desk job. Completely false. However--for those with enough self respect and thoughtfulness to disregard nonsense status, this represents an enormous opportunity. 6 figures are readily available in challenging careers in that space with very little upfront cost, or on the job training to earn while you learn. Many companies will also pay for night classes, etc.

She's in top ten American most pathetic disgusting individuals. Hypocritical and destructively toxic.
