  1. No easy solutions at THIS point to these catastrophic conditions WE have created but it doesn't have to be like this. Over a century ago fires were almost seasonal and they were healthy , necessary to keep the forest open and to prevent the possibility of these devastating, inevitable catastrophes. How many such disasters before we are motivated to take the necessary actions to reverse decades of mismanagement of our Western wild lands? The fact that some native tree species can't reproduce until fire burns under them should be highly compelling as to the necessity of frequent low level, cleansing fires in these areas.
