  1. National parks ruin the places with excessive traffic and development too. Wilderness designation, keeping out all mechanization including such as bicycles is far more effective, much of the Sierras is so designated, you have to hike for days to get to the best places and it's that great filter, the lack of easy access that's the key. Tahoe hasn't been anywhere near as pristine as the backcountry since the first road to it.
