  4.  @kittymeekins1682  I can't say "the winters were harsher", we remember the exceptions. I woke to look out my window to see my even my upright bicycle buried in snow. It was thrilling near Bishop CA where one foot was about max in the "rain shadow" of Sierras. School shut for several days! YeeHA! (naturally prudence required shoveling some roofs as they were approaching max load if we got more snow, and manually clearing walks, driveway, what kids are FOR) Dad a geologist scoffed at the idea of glaciers growing out of the E. Sierras. "Yeah they would but every yr isn't going to be 1969 most likely."
