Great fun to look back pretending it was as good as this advertisement, it wasn't.

We've gained more. You can still go back to that if you like but you also have all sorts of options never conceived of then. And we lived under the constant thought that each day may be our last as USA vs USSR H-bombs were on hair trigger and taunting eachother. NOT so great really. Our defense?...take cover under a desk with head between legs and kiss your ass goodbye.

@jm1551701 Checking the oil at every fill up was expected, adding a quart was very common. And damn the exhaust was nasty toxic. LA air was sh_t brown, burned the eyes and throat and stunk.

@GBaggellus In a glorified way, YES, absolutely true that you can do it today so those reminiscing should consider going that direction. Very few want to work that hard when it comes down to the whole reality. I live in ag area of farther N. Cali, I contract for the sector so I know what it's about.

@dionst.michael1482 Don't comply with the stab today. And don't even THINK about being gay in 1950, or atheist or.....god forbid socialist...you'd be crucified town center.

@tomrogers9467 You can smell them from 1/4 mile behind. Tunnels were intensely toxic anywhere back then, eyes would water. Our rivers were so laden in industrial waste they'd catch on fire sometimes.

@steveb7310 I was thinking the same, I rode high performance bike hard daily for 15 yrs starting in early '80's, don't recall any serious issues with oil on the road but I was mainly rural rider...city riding is insane and extremely stressful regardless. No one gives a shit about you, they'd just as soon run over you as notice you.
