Not about to collapse but it's highly questionable that it will ever supersede the USA economically, as has been the popular expectation for many yrs.

@GT-wj3gl Are you F'n kidding ?? Mars is going to be a million times harder to live on then Antarctica is today, even if we have a nuclear holocaust or anything else that's actually likely to happen, Earth will be so vastly better than Mars it's hilarious.

Nonsense. NO ONE gains from someone else's poverty, exactly the opposite.

Highest ESG score on Earth is telling, just hinted at here concerning insane ban on fertilizers.

@1sdrummer2 Well darnit I bet half the thumbs up took it literally. :D Ya think?

@1sdrummer2 Often I get presumptuous based on other posts in these threads...so yeah my expectations are low. Great to be wrong sometimes.

@blakejohnson3864 A real-life example: In my hood we all have similar sized modest lots, 1/2 to 1 acre, all my neighbors turned theirs into typical yards with 'useless' lawns, ornamental landscape and parking lots. I instead choose to grow tons of all sorts of nuts, fruits and such. Under communism I'd be punished for my efforts and have all my produce confiscated so naturally I'd destroy my productive potential like anyone else. I'd refuse to be a slave to the sloth around me. Under strong socialism I'd have half or more of my efforts stolen by the state to redistribute in a very inefficient fashion and again I'd probably quit producing as a matter of human nature and principle, certainly I'd produce far less. Either way there'd be LESS fruits of my labors to go around, we'd all be less prosperous but MORE EQUAL. That said there are some changes needed in current corporate culture, incentive structure and so on.

The CCP punished Australia by shunning it's coal due to Ausie's suggestion that the Wuhan virus be independently investigated. Don't challenge the CCP or else.

Physical resources are no where near limiting growth as long as technology isn't limited by simplistic foolish dogma like your indoctrination.

@ggusta1 Yeah I get all that. I'd prefer to be poor in the West than a billionaire in China or Russia. That says nothing about immanent collapse. Back in the height of The Cold War I always thought the 'domino theory' was BS, just defend our borders and allow the USSR and proxies to fail on their own, as they eventually did. (Regan's military spending often gets credit but that's a myth, Soviet spending never tracked ours) It took a long time. Tyranny works in the sense that it keeps ppl inline, indoctrinated and ignorant of the rest of World. China is getting worse and it was never great and still mostly very poor. What is the zero Covid nonsense actually for? To single out anyone who resists such insane immoral atrocities vs the compliant?? Sure isn't about health an welfare.

Reckless not to have savings, $1k is ridiculous.

Climate change was a BIG deal in 1972, it was the pending ice age (glacial maximum) at that time and there was at least as much reason and evidence for it as there is for todays fear dogmatic nonsense.
1
@blakejohnson3864 Because you are so non-thinking and/or indoctrinated to believe it's a zero sum game. Soviet "CEOs" were poor and their workers were destitute--see the corolation there?

Maybe you can keep a tally to see if I was accurate or not. ;-)

@devinloosbrock1249 Would you?? I don't think so, looters are losers.

@hueyg206 What are your scientific poles to back that assertion up? I call BULLSHIT. They were nearly starving back then, despite the crippling corruption currently I think they want to move forward not backward. Nothing works without at least a modest level of meritocracy which is diametrically apposed to communism.
