"Everyone needs gas and oil." Yup--back when you added or at least checked oil every fill up.

@flight2k5 They sure as HELL didn't last anywhere near as long as today and required 10X more maintenance. When my dad was in college he'd do an inframe overhaul, mainly piston rings, every 30k miles on his car. Tires and brakes might last 8 or 10k miles, tune ups a few times per yr. Doing 35 mph sustained was really moving, they had a hard time stopping from there and handled like a farm tractor. Oil puddles were the norm in every parking space and driveway, on and on. You'd check the oil every time you got gas. Less than 10 mpg was fine. We are grateful they don't make 'em like they used to. When I was a little kid 100k miles on a car and was notable and much more than that everything was shot, seats to wheels.

Ockie Ditchbank Regardless of freeways or none--do a reality check on pre-1950 when essentially everyone was poor by today's standards.

Promo productions have ALWAYS claimed that right up to the present. It's part of the sales narrative every company tries to convince is unique and abundant to their biz.

Love these old flicks. Funny I still often use dry ice for similar purposes.

Nope--they can fake ads today even better.

Ockie Ditchbank That's funny. Only problem is that crime rates are far lower now than in most of USA history. But also I happen to live off a short dead end gravel road in no small part for my cats.

Fun advertisement. Don't recall grandparents talking about horseshoes, archery and softball during lunch. Hahaha (but then they rarely talked to me anyway)

@oldbuickmankilgore6864 The first car for us kids was a '68 Buick LeSabre, not bad for the era and price but a wallowing, wobbly pile of F_ck by todays standards, can't go stop or turn. Almost as much a road hazard as the common hay wagon, aka., pickup truck.
