Yeah this had nothing to do with the car if that's the case, it was human reckless behavior.

As fatalities approach zero for autonomous, and they will sometime this decade, you might reconsider. This is not a Tesla story so far, it's a reckless human story.
6
40,000 die every yr on American roads, this is ONLY mentioned because it's Tesla, never mind it was apparently driven in extremely reckless fashion. Truth is Tesla is the safest car on the road and AP makes it vastly more safe still.
6
@kylereese4822 How do you know? It can't operate even with the seat belt off, they'd have to monkey with the system. We don't know if AP was activated. Likely a drunk driver who fled the scene.
5
We don't know if the driver was drunk and fled the scene but if there was no driver in the drivers seat they had to go to some pains to fool the car into thinking a driver is there, AP won't function without a driver in the DRIVERS seat. We don't even know if AP was active yet. It's not a Tesla or autonomous story, it's a reckless driver story.
5
This is not a Tesla story, it's a reckless driver story, possibly a drunk who left the scene or idiots who somehow fooled the car into thinking a driver was in the drivers seat. Car will not continue to drive if you even remove the driver's seatbelt, it will slow down and stop with emergency flashers on.
5
It's a reckless driver story as far as we know, not about Tesla at all.
3
This is a reckless driver story, has nothing to do with Tesla *so far*, we don't know if AP was active or if the driver was drunk and fled.
3
So do Teslas, AND your hand on the wheel. So they either hacked the car or AP wasn't active, maybe intoxicated driver fled the scene.
2
@bradjeffords4451 Fail to have hand on wheel for more than about 1/2 min., or say remove seatbelt--and the car will flash red at you while making annoying noises and slow down gradually, stop with flashers on.
2
@2TMarie They have to fool the steering wheel into 'feeling' a hand on it.
2
@pastorhaze9509 More info: The road was more like a long driveway without lane lines, AP cannot be activated on such a road, further the data logs confirm that AP was not in use.
2
Tesla should have all the data, we don't know yet if AP was even active.
2
Tesla's are the safest on the road, dramatically so when using AP and it's not possible to be on AP or FSD without a driver in the DRIVERS seat interacting with the steering wheel. This is not a Tesla story it's a reckless driver story. Either they fooled the car or the driver left the scene.
2
Or a drunk driver fled, we just don't know yet even if AP was active.
2
@HighestRank Hahaha....you have no clue what your talking about, no insult just common ignorance.
1
We don't know if AP was even active, regardless it's a reckless driver story not a Tesla story unless the driver moved positions AFTER the crash.
1
@sugarsore Drunk driver could have fled. Fact is WE DON'T know yet if AP was being used or anything else but you have to trick the car to not be in the drivers seat, it will stop the car if hand is off the wheel for half a minute or the seatbelt is disconnected. Either way this has nothing to do with Tesla so far as we know.
1
@firstlast9731 Apparently nearly 10X safer (less likely to crash) than average cars, and certainly the safest on the road IF you crash.
1
You are in FAR greater danger as a result. Petrol cars burn far more often and are many times worse in a crash and 10X more likely to crash.
1
Not a Tesla story, reckless driver story.
1
Leon Wilcox You can't even do that without going to some pains to fool the car. It's a reckless driver story not a Tesla story no matter what. Could have been intoxicated driver who fled, we don't know if AP was active.
1
This happens 40,000 X per yr in America alone, don't be fooled by media bs, it's only reported bc it's a Tesla.
1
@pastorhaze9509 OK--then maybe they got locked inside and cooked? But if the "driver" was not driving from the drivers seat it's pure recklessness, nothing to do with Tesla...you have to hack the car to do that.
