@heron123100 Female nature has not and will not change, yes culture is important too but I don't think it applies much in his case. He was genuinely NOT pursuing her, THAT's the difference, he was honest in his friendship where as those "in the friendzone" are not honest about their intentions and she knows it.

@zakzwijn8410 Only the culture has changed, important yes, but not near as important as female nature which is hardwired and can only change at evolutionary pace, over millennia.

That's very interesting but not how it is for me. I have cherished female friends that I have no sexual interest in, even the few I might consider as possible romantic potentials -- I gain from their feminine energy and perspective, I learn from them, bounce ideas off them or simply enjoy their presence. I don't pine over them. I might teach them how to maintain their car and they can teach me something about how women perceive me or men in general. They especially correct my fashion faux pas. HA! Wonder about the gay analog. Does it mean that gay guys can only have straight male friends or female friends? And similar for lesbians? Doesn't add up to me. Ppl are simply more complex than that. (pun intended)

@TheSuperappelflap There are plenty of other ways to reciprocate. And being a little charitable to anyone you respect, male or female, is it's own reward sometimes.

@TheSuperappelflap Most often there is no husband immediately around, even if there is maybe HE could use some help. I see no problem with it either way. Other day at Costco a mid age lady, no idea or concern if she's married or not, was struggling and failing to load a large bag of potting soil or whatever -- I'd have felt low NOT to do it for her, it's just common decency. Similar to pulling a vehicle out of a ditch off a remote rural road, I'd do that for anyone, kid, man or woman. Last time was few yrs ago and mid age woman was nervous in the dark, don't blame her, but had her out of the mud in 5 minutes saving her the time and price of tow truck, and even more exposure alone in the dark. She was thrilled for the result which is MY reward. She really tried to give me $40 which I never accept, she didn't ask for my help initially after all and I've been saved in worse circumstance and THEY wouldn't accept my attempts to pay. Paying it back paying it forward, an easy way to help save someone a lot for little cost to me. Rarely the receiving person is ungrateful but that's the a small price to promoting a positive universe in which we live.

@TheSuperappelflap Rarely do I see women shopping with their hubbies. Cost me little to help a woman, married or not, couldn't care less, who is struggling to load a large item into her cart at Costco, easier for me to help than do nothing. Tiny gestures like that make for a better world. I've pulled folks out of the ditch multiple times off remote rural roads.. In those instances I saved someone a ton of trouble and likely tow fees at trivial personal cost. I've been saved from the ditch too long ago as a kid with few resources, they wouldn't accept pay and I won't either. Paying the universe back and paying it forward -- feels good when the receiver is grateful. (rarely they don't seem to be)

@TheSuperappelflap Wouldn't U want, maybe even expect a man to help your women load something if she's risking injury doing it herself? Often here there seems to be an undercurrent of resentment against the opposite sex that I just don't get.

@TheSuperappelflap Yeah that's a much more difficult situation, she might turn on U for helping, ask any cop. I'm not lecturing as much as putting words to my thoughts and actions for general consideration. Sad that U are so resentful to half the population, it is somewhat self fulfilling. You seem to be living a similar toxic mentality to the one that presumably got U here. (OK, that is lecturing, I'm done now) Best wishes, obviously I'm only going to trigger U.

@TheSuperappelflap OHhhh...I see now. Hard to fathom that state of affairs but it is what it is. I'm guessing U live in a blue state, so do I. Intervening in violent encounters is fundamentally risky in any circumstances, much worse in your situation. Domestic violence calls are among the most dangerous for cops even. Pardon my presumptuousness. I have nothing useful to add to that, it's a personal choice to get involved or not in best of circumstances. Few are well equipped for violence intervention and, say in NYC, they will punish the good guy. Pathetic. My mentioned gestures, scenarios, are not much more noble than yielding in traffic when not required. But even that matters. If I had a point to make, I guess that's it.

@mrjakesh1 I don't see a problem with that as long as there is no deception going on, which there won't be between real friends.
