I remember a similar sentiment back in 1980's when everyone was lamenting the "end of the muscle car", well now horse power has tripled and everything else performance related is FAR superior as well, brakes, suspension, features and safety.

@CockatooDude Why worry about wages when you can go out and create your own job and set your OWN WAGE? I didn't like that I was, in effect, caring several worthless union "workers" on my shoulders so I put every spare penny and minute into my skills and equipment starting when I was 20, never looked back and raise my wages every yr.

Look at fuel price chart and see how foolish that is. The average price for gasoline in America over the last 100 yr.s is around $2.40/gallon (in today's dollars) and those dollars were a lot harder to come by 50 yr.s ago. Also note how fuelish SUVs dominate the landscape, the worst fuel economy vehicles (not to mention crap driving experience) a available are selling the best.

Ppl are wealthier than ever, the fact that we are even having this conversation demonstrates that. When I was a kid everyone strove to have A CAR that served it's basic function. Very few even thought about a sports car, they were anomalies, rarely seen on the road...a doctor or successful businessman.

Wade H Bullshit. It's never been easier and inflation has been near zero for a decade now. Yes wages have lagged but this is America, GO OUT AND CREATE YOUR OWN DAMN JOB! No one owes you anything. We haven't seen serious inflation problems since almost Jimmy Carter, you may not be old enough to remember that era but I am. "They can't save a couple hundred bucks" but they sure can sit around online, watch TV, play with their expensive phones constantly..... Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a worker who is actually honest and worth a damn?

Jennifer WhiteWolf If you can't get a decent job NOW you have no one but yourself to blame. Plenty of high paying jobs have been left unfilled for many years as there aren't enough qualified folks to take them. And if you don't like what's out there, quit whining and create your own darn job. I started my own biz when I was 20 and never looked back.

elton john YOU nailed it. Obese Americans are the norm today, it used to be the exception, it's all about diet and lifestyle. When I was in grade school there were exactly TWO fat kids in my entire class. Now it's half of them.

I have ONLY owned rear drive mannys my entire life including my two old BMWs, work truck, everything. But I imagine an EV will be in my future.

Matt Wolf Because they are STUPID and it makes them feel bigger and more prosperous when the effect is exactly the opposite. It makes them smaller and poorer.

@sol9603 If you have to ask it's not for you. lol It's like asking why not be happy with a Smart Car if all you do is commute and fetch groceries.
1
@sol9603 How many FUN cars have you driven? Nothing wrong with hating driving and owning a Prius but some of us will pay up to actually look forward to a drive.

Outlaw GT Why did you purchase an expensive TOY when you are scraping by? Own your own stupidity.

Wade H Yes 2% or less is close to zero, in fact it's BETTER than ZERO, 2% is considered about ideal....but that's over your head obviously. Sober up and get a job, or get some skills and get a better job, whining won't help, it's why you are destitute.

Uncle Scam If both trucks were bran new would it be a toss up between them? Is the new one not significantly better than the previous? And how about options? 2% ave. inflation means 35k in 2010 dollars is equivalent to nearly $40k in today's dollars. But the inflation index is not ONLY pickup trucks, it's also things like electronics, notice how TVs have become a fraction of the cost they were ten yr.s ago for example. I bet you'd take your new truck over the older one without much thought...it's not apples to apples comparison....is it?
1
Uncle Scam Stealth inflation as in fantasy inflation? If that were the case your previous Ford truck was worth about $90k in today's dollars, hmm? I won't ask you where you get that silly number because obviously YOU DON'T KNOW nor care...fits your preconceived notions so you repeat it, right?

Get a better job you foolish child and quit blaming others for you personal failure. Obviously you don't care about reality and that's a problem for you, not me.
1
Your obviously an ignorant child who can't even say where your claimed, arbitrary numbers come from. I don't care if you wash the bathrooms in a bank. hahaha

When wages were $4? The average price of gas in the USA over last 100 yr.s is around $2.50/gallon in today's dollars.
