I once had a lunatic attempting to kick my side door down, I was watching the door flex in 3 or 4 inches at the bottom, I was prepping diner and had a big knife in my hand but had reason to believe there were 2 more behind him...after a few harsh words exchanged I put the knife on counter top and ran to my room where loaded Colt 45 under bed. Only seconds to get to gun it was dangerously long, fortunately the door held, had it not I'd have likely killed him, no telling. (much more to the story but I just wanted to make the point how a few seconds can be a long time in such circumstances)
