Been several decades since the name had any significant meaning. Escalades long the epitome of tasteless cheesy crap. I want leather interior touch points for starters, at least seats and arm rests, otherwise soft/padded, anything but hard plastic.

@wtmayhew Caddy was often considered a glorified Chevy anyway but up till late '70's there was relative luxury. They also produced utterly rubbish diesels that killed the name in some folks view, around that time.

@wtmayhew Fun tangent: Close family friends had large ranch around 25 miles from town, therefore significant driving miles. Naturally they had diesel tanks for farm equipment and figured they could write off diesel for Caddys as it wouldn't be noticed they were filling those also on farm fuel. (just occurred to me that off road diesel is taxed less and forbidden on road, not sure if that was the case at that time, but separate thing) Well the IRS called them out on diesel going to family cars and the gas small block V8s modified to diesel didn't last long, lol.

@wtmayhew As much as I respect GM for certain 'innovations', they had a long history of experimenting in the market place instead of before hand. Corvair, particularly the rubbish aluminum block Vega, then those failed diesels and whatever I'm forgetting at the moment.

How they allow incessant infuriating 'bells and bongs' to make the cut is beyond me. Poor seats a deal breaker, esp for a "luxury" car.
