  7.  @tyronmegawatts6580  I'm bit of a petrol head, crotch rockets of my youth to 'old fangled' BMW M3 with screaming 9k revving V8 today. Petrol is still crucial and I hope to be able to afford it in 2030, but for the 1st time since the automobile took American streets, the cost per mile changes, will drop by 4X (roughly--depending on local petrol vs electric costs) and you just plug in at home happy to never visit a gas station nor oil change or other maintenance. Mid class and lower will be chief beneficiaries of reduced transport costs.

  9. We must reject the notion that "selfish" (as in self interest not self centered), Capitalism, Individualism or even greed are negatives. Greed can be good or bad depending on it's manifestation, if it means, as usually does, bettering one's life then it's good. MY self interest extends to the entire universe, certainly the entire biosphere of Earth. Am I greedy bc I seek rational environmentalism??

  11. Verify that number? Mining is required for everything we do and batteries will be treated as high grade ore, endlessly recycled. No need for damned mandates, the market will kill off ICE based on simple economics, can't compete with 125MPGe and far simpler machinery. 1/4 the operating cost, BEVs will soon be the poor mans choice. I still love my old 3-pedal BMW V8, bit of a petrolhead, but it's delusional to think they will be built much longer.

  12.  @michianabaddriversin4690  Many BEV owners haven't visited a charging station in yrs. Those are only used for long road trips. Normally they just plug in at night at HOME. No longer tethered to gas stations, no oil changes, coolant or much of anything else to maintain. 1/4 the operating cost. Mandates are retarded, the market will determine choices and it's clear BEVs are the winner, as much as I still love my 3-pedal BMW V8... those days are numbered.

As F'd up as our governments have been I will need it. Also grow my own of everything I can. (still intend to keep my BMW sports car tho :D)

I wouldn't recommend my sports car to many, it's actually a replacement for the "crotch rockets" of my youth, an entirely different thing that I loved but also wouldn't recommend to others. Nor will an EV ever replace the visceral analog engagement, light weight, etc, of my fun car, but most folks rightly don't give a damn about that.

  23. Someone did the numbers post 9/11 when new rules for boarding airliners became onerous and over the next couple yrs MORE additional ppl were killed on highways as a result of avoiding the air terminal hassles and driving than were killed on 9/11 itself.

  27.  @dk-bw4gk  Performance is almost maxed?? It's around 20% efficient for common panels up to some 40% for expensive applications like satellites. Suit yourself but 125MPGe is hard for ICE to compete with, that will be at least 150MPGe for the most economical options in a couple yrs. BEVs are already reaching purchase price parity with ICE in China, soon to go global. Overall operating cost, obviously depending on regional petrol vs electric costs and miles driven--is ballpark of 1/4 for a quality lower cost BEV vs a Camry say. An Uber driver will tell you their car payment is made by fuel savings alone for a Model 3. That's the ultra high use case. For someone only driving a couple thousand miles per yr, that '94 Civic may be best economics for some time to come. (neglecting safety, performance, convenience, BEV owners love never visiting a gas station and only requiring charge stations for long road trips, no oil changes, etc. Plus all the other modern improvements)

When it comes time for me to seek an economical car it will clearly be a BEV, wouldn't touch a new ICE today as the depreciation is going to be extreme. Meanwhile I expect to continue to make a modest fortune continue to multiply, an opportunity in part created by misconceptions like yours. My guess is you will see the folly of your opinions in a few yrs, not my job to convince you of anything. Sincere GOOD LUCK.

  40.  @spacebound1969  I know well, third generation mining background. Grandfather made fortune in Philippine copper mining. The good thing is that most metals can and will be recycled efficiently endlessly. The clue is in the purchase price (unsubsidized) of BEV vs ICE, all the costs including energy to mine are included in that price (excluding externalities like environment which petrol doesn't have a leg to stand on) and it's reaching parity between BEV and ICE.

  41.  @thehighllama8101  Keep in mind some $6 trillion of global annual subsidies for fossil fuels that the BEV subsidies don't come close to balancing and yet they are still winning. Eliminating fossil subsidies would be the way to go but not about to happen. Just the perception of "being forced" is enough for me to appose the subsidies and mandates. NOT NEEDED, you will be driving or riding in a BEV long before 2035 regardless. And you'll love it. Our lousy politicians will take credit for a revolution they had nothing good to do with. Already cheap decent BEVs out of China and Tesla will have an excellent offering, 30 to $35k, 140MPGe or so, in only a couple yrs. And they will last 1M miles with minimum maintenance.

Pepsi is getting some of first Tesla semis in December and we'll all get to see how they fair. Ramping up to 50k semis per yr in 2024 Tesla won't come close to meeting demand IMO. Goes without saying that ruthless economics rules that space so demand will tell the story.

Nor will anyone but Tesla be able to mass produce them at a good profit. (that I know of) But the market will decide, options and competition are imperative. Hydrogen is DOA tho and yet still some are promoting that dead end.

The 3035 mandate is a joke, the transition will happen before then anyway but tyrant Newsom will claim credit for what he had nothing good to do with. No one will want a new ICE in a few yrs. The grid will adapt just as it did when air conditioning was adopted over a ten yr period requiring 30% more electric. I intend to power everything off my own roof as will many.
