Be skeptical of everyone including Stossel. Think for yourself as difficult as it is.

@tyronmegawatts6580 I'm bit of a petrol head, crotch rockets of my youth to 'old fangled' BMW M3 with screaming 9k revving V8 today. Petrol is still crucial and I hope to be able to afford it in 2030, but for the 1st time since the automobile took American streets, the cost per mile changes, will drop by 4X (roughly--depending on local petrol vs electric costs) and you just plug in at home happy to never visit a gas station nor oil change or other maintenance. Mid class and lower will be chief beneficiaries of reduced transport costs.

@rickschritt1616 Did he specify his generating capacity? I missed that.

@dk-bw4gk Solar price and probably performance will continue to improve fast, fully charging the car? How often are you driving 300 miles per day? Average user drives some 40 miles.

@dansanger5340 Indeed. BIG loss of street cred from this hack job. Like the channel in general but this is BS.

@dabigkahunacatfish2992 Intellectual laziness is not new, but yeah it's a problem.

@mmurph2686 Yeah like when the scourge of air conditioning was released on the USA, massive increase in grid demand over a decade. I imagine we can continue to survive change for the better.

@tyronmegawatts6580 IDK your situation but I expect to power home and BEV off roof solar for new home build here in N. Commifornia sun.

@dk-bw4gk Performance is almost maxed?? It's around 20% efficient for common panels up to some 40% for expensive applications like satellites. Suit yourself but 125MPGe is hard for ICE to compete with, that will be at least 150MPGe for the most economical options in a couple yrs. BEVs are already reaching purchase price parity with ICE in China, soon to go global. Overall operating cost, obviously depending on regional petrol vs electric costs and miles driven--is ballpark of 1/4 for a quality lower cost BEV vs a Camry say. An Uber driver will tell you their car payment is made by fuel savings alone for a Model 3. That's the ultra high use case. For someone only driving a couple thousand miles per yr, that '94 Civic may be best economics for some time to come. (neglecting safety, performance, convenience, BEV owners love never visiting a gas station and only requiring charge stations for long road trips, no oil changes, etc. Plus all the other modern improvements)

@dk-bw4gk Hahaha....more expensive all around, OKAY fine. I'm done with your childish bullshit.

@dk-bw4gk I'm a bit of a petrol head, love my 'old' BMW M3 screaming V8, but I don't pretend it's economical, I can't think of anyone I'd recommend it to and tho I don't currently desire a BEV it's obvious that's where things are going. If you insist on emotions dictating your beliefs despite all the evidence to the contrary....nothing I can do about it, not MY problem. BYE!

@dk-bw4gk Zero evidence from you either, both of us just making ascertions. Mine are based on numerous 2nd hand accounts and actual numbers. When it comes time for me to seek an economical car it will clearly be a BEV, wouldn't touch a new ICE today as the depreciation is going to be extreme. Meanwhile I expect to continue to make a modest fortune continue to multiply, an opportunity in part created by misconceptions like yours. My guess is you will see the folly of your opinions in a few yrs, not my job to convince you of anything. Sincere GOOD LUCK.

@lightningjet6574 Sure, pull a load of cow manure to and from work, grocery shopping, dragging main street. Have fun, not my concern.

@SoGoodRc1 As mentioned, I generally enjoy the the channel, respect Stossel and I know he's completely wrong this time and that it matters. Understand now?
1
@SoGoodRc1 I don't seek confirmation of my prior conclusions, get it?

@SoGoodRc1 Be specific please, old thread IDK what I said.

@NekoinaBox2000 If you have a point to make please do so, no time for children's nonsense.

This is condescending elementary view of subject. ECONOMICS will rule and that's proven to be BEVs, simply a matter of pennies per mile. Doesn't matter if you disagree the market place will tell the truth. Relax, let it play out.

@mmurph2686 The political climate is abysmal here in Commifornia. The 3035 mandate is a joke, the transition will happen before then anyway but tyrant Newsom will claim credit for what he had nothing good to do with. No one will want a new ICE in a few yrs. The grid will adapt just as it did when air conditioning was adopted over a ten yr period requiring 30% more electric. I intend to power everything off my own roof as will many.
