Nope, nor 48V architecture. Those will wait for completely new designs.

@EdwardsNH It's about how much of an entirely new vehicle they are ready to take on. Going steer by wire means 48V which means entirely new supply chains for plethora of parts and major--like new model ramp instead of a quick ramp like Threefresh. Likely X will be canceled before that happens, maybe S as well.

@rozonoemi9374 They don't but what's your point? You want the traditional way of senseless aesthetic changes, cheap crap added so the Jones know you have the latest? Beetle, Porsche 911, some of best ever selling cars for half a century, didn't add fake jet nozzles and tail fins, phony air scoops....pointless dramatic styling ages fast and looks as stupid as it is. Same today for EVs with big fake grills or most ICE vehicles for that matter. I suppose you think the Threefresh looks the same as the original 3.

@rozonoemi9374 You may not care about the Jones but that's how shallow "new models" have been for the last 70 odd yrs, superficial changes so it's obvious it's new and to make prior designs age faster.

@992GTS-DC There is no fundamental reason steer by wire feedback can't be as good as anything else, but it won't be until refined which can be done w over the air updates. Should have multiple settings to choose from ultimately. Model Y is not a sports car, it's a family SUV and never had good steering feel. Agree that a sports car absolutely needs exceptional feedback, one of the reasons I choose BMW E92 M3, last of conventional hydraulic steering, successor was unrefined and lacked classic BMW feedback.

@992GTS-DC Why do you think no one used 48V while talking about the need to do so for 30 yrs? Because it's not easy to make the change and lazy Legacy MFGs don't do difficult. Same for steer by wire. Steer by wire will need to sense resistance, no reason that can't be transmitted to the steering wheel, to some extent it already is in the Cybertruck according to at least one test driver. Is it worse than a typical pickup? Not from what I gather and software can make it whatever you want.

@992GTS-DC Stalks I definitely agree. Parking sensors shouldn't be required but it's true they lag badly getting that right, CT has 'birds eye' view I believe, IDK why it's taking so long for the rest. See Cammisa on Hagerty on CT for why to go with steer by wire, at least for that rig it's a vast improvement, I see no reason it wouldn't be better for all vehicles. Granted this is very old anecdote but I once broke steering shaft on old manual steer 1-ton Chevy, sure as hell take Tesla's CT system over that setup. We've had throttle by wire for decades and never been a problem with it, yes steering is even more critical but not by a hell of a lot, done right safety won't be an issue. Airliners have been 100% fly by wire starting in late 1980's, hasn't ever caused a crash that I can think of.

@992GTS-DC And why don't you worry about same for throttle/braking by wire at 88mph? Because such critical systems are not vulnerable to that. "Out of Spec" just did a 'run-it-to-zero' test on CT, until it stopped moving, everything shutting down yet steering continued to work fine to be towed to charger on it's own wheels. My criticism of Tesla's sensor suite is the lack of sideview cams at very front of cars, not lack of sonic sensors. Big missed opportunity there.

@992GTS-DC Not sure it applies to all models this century but take an F-150/250/350, lose engine power (which was common some yrs ago) and you can effectively no longer steer. Sure as HELL take electric/electronic over that.

@992GTS-DC "A problem that doesn't exist" just like power steering solved, we steered fine long before power assist. How do you know what you are missing until you use it?
