Conspiracy to suppress is a hell of a stretch, that's not even possible, and they should get credit for creating the EV1, curtailing it was later recognized as a big mistake (by the CEO of the time) but they couldn't cost effectively support the small number out there, it only had a 40 mile range and they couldn't see a way forward with it. Batt tech simply wasn't ready for beyond short range with heavy lead acid batts that wouldn't last many yrs. Presumably that's why it was leased instead of sold outright. That said--I look forward to GM's extinction for a host of other reasons.
