  2. Those incentives are mainly used on ICE, aka., hybrids. Tesla doesn't need them and Elon is against on principle, as he should be. Such also drives essentially all the backlash against EVs. Tesla is competing very well against Chinese options in China, they'll compete even better in N. America even without tariffs. SOME tariffs are needed just to cancel out CCP subsidies. Mr. T is of course overstating his intentions as a bargaining chip.

  3.  @jefflittle8913  Everyone knows that, but it's more debatable than simply leveling the playing field. Free trade is generally healthy with major exceptions of adversaries. Having 80% of advanced chips made in Taiwan, for example, is asking for trouble. Or Germany relying on Russian gas. And losing our mfg base is not great. However--it obviously makes no sense to grow mangos in Montana or make airliners or autos in Costa Rica, some things are no brainer low friction trade ideals.
