Been obvious for yrs that Tesla is going to be the savior of German auto industry. (or one of, better bring in the Chinese)

Best side effect of this transition is the doom of UAW, IG-Metal and unions in general.

My first industrial job starting at 17 taught me that union members generally don't give a damn about taking down the company they "work for".

@Bernd-b1y Which of the legacy brands can survive and how? Sad in a way, love my old BMWs, but they are too little innovation, TOO late, too burdened with crippling unions, senseless bureaucracy and outdated cultures. You won't be saying that in 2030.

@Bernd-b1y And then there's the autonomous factor, not going to argue about it, but IMO only Tesla is about to have it licked and no one will want a car that can't drive itself, by end of decade. Granted all other mass market MFGs will be able to license FSD from Tesla, T will take most of the profits as they should.

Was going to say--"Get a job at Tesla." But union rank and file are ruined for life for real jobs.

@Bernd-b1y If you believe ICE has a future, regardless of foolish government policies, you are the clueless one. German brands are not making the transition in a competitive fashion. Likewise for US and Japanese legacy brands. If ICE did have a future I'd agree legacies would too, much merged and downsized. Chinese brands never figured out ICE but they have run away w the BEV market, 10 yrs ahead and pulling away. And of course Germany screwed it's industrials via bad energy choices.

@Bernd-b1y They are all losing money hand over fist. Not sustainable, certainly not competitive outside Germany. I could point to F and GM's BEVs, some good products except for software, which is crucial today. They are scaling back due to losses, again--not sustainable. They'll milk ICE for several more yrs and die with it.

@Bernd-b1y Sorry. You have no clue about autonomous driving. Level X is meaningless. U have NO IDEA what's going on here in the colonies. You'll see soon enough. Not going to argue this nonsense anymore. Best wishes!

@Bernd-b1y "Experts", only a few yrs ago, said autonomous wasn't possible using vision alone. NOW everyone that matters is moving that way. The "experts" I care about are the ones using FSD, it's becoming phenomenal, no one else is even in the running. And IF it takes tens of billions $ of super compute and 100's of billions of miles of vid data, which I'm confident it does. Who else can do it? Have you used FSD in N. America and compared to the other ADAS systems?
1
@Bernd-b1y You simply don't have any idea what you are on about. Not interested in debating with a 5 yr old. BYE.

@229andymon Seriously? U think a company profits off of injuries? WOW. Get an F'n JOB already.

@229andymon I started at 17 in 1978, first industrial job, union mine mill. Everything union made things worse. Quickly drove me to start my own tiny contracting biz, only thing GOOD unions ever did for me. Unions are little mafias with no value added. A good man is GOLD, writes his own ticket. Unions homogenize, dilute, cut down the tall flowers pretending to uphold the lazy. Everyone loses.
