  3.  @point-blank3369  The problem is that the entire ICE "assets" are actually a liability, same with stealerships. Only a few yrs from now no one will want to buy a NEW ICE car. This is just another Apple vs all the rest except even bigger motes for Tesla, winner takes most there will still be a dozen folks wanting a Blackberry or Toyota. Legacies have been dumb, they earned their demise and it's healthy, creative destruction. Unless China invades Taiwan say, or continues the lockdown insanity, only they will give Tesla a real run for their money. Ford has a nice work truck in the Lightening, it will sell but they can't make many, aren't even planning to. Rivian has a good sports truck (not a work truck) but both of those are likely to lose money for some time to come and struggle with mass production. Toy? snicker snicker, they like BMW (fan of BMW, have two of them, also fan of Honda and Toy for their past, not their future) still planning to build ICE into 2035 or '40! Good Grief that's ridiculous. BMW is actually one of the leaders among German brands for EVs, VW doing it's best might survive or merge with BM, Merc....as they all dramatically downsize.

  4.  @point-blank3369  A pertinent tangent: Rivian had roughly the same operation costs as Tesla last quarter, as hard to imagine as that is. Starting off with deep pockets has a major downside in that it avoids the necessity to be lean and mean, Tesla struggled for a decade just to survive, pinching pennies is in their DNA.

  7.  @itekani  There was a murder in the parking lot at Tesla last yr. How many murders did you have in your driveway recently? Why don't you Google how many suicide per 1000 happen in, say San Francisco, then multiply it by 3X for a better estimate for current Shanghai situation and see how many would be expected.

  9.  @point-blank3369  The crucial parts, batt packs and power train are Chinese, software to I imagine. Toy isn't remotely going to take on Tesla, only the Chinese are in that position. Toy is like GM, drowning in debt, a decade late and a grand short. And your quality reference is out of date. Tesla is producing in China it's not simply buying the power train from other mfgs. See the difference?

  12.  @point-blank3369  Laughable that folks take all those 10's of billions "assigned" seriously other than alarming extra DEBT when they are already drowning in it. At the very best they'll get 1/4 as much per dollar as Tesla does, no one has comparable capital efficiency and outside China, only Tesla has secured raw material contracts yrs ago and batt production starting 8 yrs ago. And then there's this thing called talent---Again outside China, Tesla and SpaceX are where the best and brightest engineers, coders, etc., want to work not much left for the rest.

Tesla has paid off it's debt, $200M is effectively ZERO and they are making the highest profit margins ever seen in the industry beyond boutique brands like Porsche or Ferrari. This is why all the others have been touting their EV plans, no doubt an EV is simply more valuable but that doesn't guarantee a profitable product or even the ability to mass produce it. No insult but you simply have no clue about Tesla. $18B profit last quarter and profits growing even faster than production as economies of scale kick in. All this while doubling on the way to quadrupling production. Shanghai and China in general may well become disasters if they don't abandon their insane 'zero Covid' policy. Macro events aside Tesla is going to continue to surprise everyone outside the Tesla bubble.

  15.  @point-blank3369  Tesla is a currently a money printing machine. Yup...things changed fast, couple yrs out of date and one has no idea what they are talking about. Likely we have a recession or worse coming soon, will effect everyone including Tesla but they are best positioned to thrive during it just as they did in 2020 when all legacy mfgs were in the toilet. Tesla: $20B cash vis $0.2B in debt. Now compare that to F and GM at some 100 to 150B debt, Toy 240B ish debt and climbing.
