Tulips was an extreme example that doesn't entirely apply, that was more like Bitcoin. Commodities have real use cases and commonly overshoot 2 or 3X either way with market upsets.

@mrspeigle1 Theoretically more than actually. Same with the tulips as they were used as currency, in both cases the value is completely arbitrary. Both can be replaced with any number of other mediums of exchange.

@mrspeigle1 I get it, and if it becomes stable and widely useable, which it may, then it could be as good as fiat currencies. Tangent::: Ever hear of Kent cigarettes used as currency post USSR collapse? I think it was Bulgaria, they packed around flattened old packs of cigs as money. Point being--societies will always create a currency to streamline transactions bc toting a truck load of potatoes for a tank of fuel is so damned inefficient.
