Shameless. There should be recourse for that sort of abuse. The book scam was just getting ramped up when I went 30 plus yrs ago. I got an engineering degree and paid my own way with zero debt nor help from family (tho they could've and would've) I didn't even want handouts from family. It was WORTH it for me due to valuable, challenging curriculum and lower prices back then.

Endless opportunities in the trades, 6 figures readily available but ppl don't want those jobs at any price.

@mhero9255 Despite two of my siblings being professors and living in a college town myself--I hope for a big shift with the 'going online' thing courtesy of Covid, plus the insane tuition inflation. No doubt labs, regular classes and "the college experience" can not be entirely replaced (I wouldn't trade my experiences for anything) still most learning can be done online today without any instructors required. I'd cheer if enrollment was cut in half, it's the reality check universities desperately need. Degrees are cheapened with 'everyone has one' right when they are most ridiculously expensive. And right when "your plumber will drive a Porsche" as the trades become some of the most lucrative jobs available. I wonder who will fill the trade jobs in this coming infrastructure build, seems we need to import a couple million more Mexicans as established citizens are TOO GOOD to do manual work.

I've been beating that drum for many yrs and when mentioning it to young ppl their eyes glaze over, even 'guaranteed' 6 figure incomes within a few yrs doesn't mean anything to them bc for decades in America we have stigmatized the trades, negative status no matter how smart and successful you may be at it. Plus it entails REAL WORK which most youth have no tolerance for nor any experience.

@dbackscott I have all my (relevant) texts too, my chem book was tattered and taped when I bought it.

Many have been highly irresponsible with mortgages too, my taxes went to mid age folks who were living hand to mouth and couldn't pay their bills when something went wrong (Covid) meanwhile my shack was long paid off and zero debt otherwise I had to support reckless individuals who don't have a grand in the bank but live in much nicer places.

"Educated" also means indoctrinated with socialist leanings where as a 'working man' must live in a meritocracy and properly does not respect strong socialist policies. Trump wasn't wrong about everything. (I too have ME degree and it was well worth it tho I also never called self an "engineer" as that wasn't my main job in my contracting biz, never went a penny indebt for it, worked my way thru but in a time of lower tuitions)

I'm talking about YOU, obviously you have been indoctrinated with a toxic level of stupidity regarding the topic. Yes it's always a matter of degree but I don't want to be responsible for your welfare. When you limit the right to fail you also limit the degree of success available. I'm sure such common sense goes right over your head tho and you won't even try to understand it.

I bet you have some useless "education" like MBA or liberal arts, no? Do you even know what engineering IS? Look it up you'll probably learn more than you did in your entire pointless "education". Putting ppl on the sidewalk to die is normal for China, it's never happened in the USA due to inability to pay. That's the a red herring, "it's either I'm responsible for YOUR health care or you die from neglect". Right? One extreme or another you were taught and you mindlessly regurgitate it. The vast majority of disease in America is due to lifestyle choices, mainly food. If I have to pay for others health care I demand about half the food in the market to be banned or taxed 50%. I demand everyone get up with me at 4:30 am for a 10km run, then weights, and I get to determine your diet. Don't even THINK about having a beer after work.

Deal with it anyway to those nitpicking superficial vid quality while missing the content.

@Jim Allen There is endless opportunity for 6 figure incomes in the trades, more than ever today, yet mention that to youth and their eyes usually glaze over, no status in it and it's real work. We've stigmatized the trades for decades in the USA which is a massive opportunity for anyone who can rise above toxic status nonsense.

@Jim Allen Anything that get's one's hands dirty is look down on, ppl don't even think about it they just mindlessly disrespect you to one degree or another if you get dirty doing real work. Some of the most impressive, smartest men I know, much smarter than many engineers I've known, are say, diesel mechanics, a very demanding job requiring old mechanic skills and modern trouble shooting, electro-mechanical and computer skills. They damn well better be making $150k plus and are worth every penny.
