Canals as sewers is unfortunate tho.

@ATruckCampbell Definitely good enough for it's day, or 3rd world today, still crappy, so to speak.

@johnwang9914 Baloney. You can drink water coming from many modern sewage treatment plants. Sure the plant itself stinks from the input side, nasty. I've worked at one a few days here and there, not a place I want to be. Sure beats entire city like that as any shantytown suffers. Wouldn't swim or fish or anything else in Venice canals, be at risk of hepatitis, all sorts of bad stuff.

@johnwang9914 There was no treatment anywhere a century ago. Get some perspective, you are making up nonsense.

@johnwang9914 If U don't understand diff between raw sewage and properly treated....sorry I can't help U. Good Luck Good Life!

@johnwang9914 Anytime before last century, waterways, mostly rivers, were both sewers and drinking water supply.

@johnwang9914 Yeah a dysfunctional 3rd world country should be our aspirational target.

@LaSombraa Drive by a "soul food" restaurant everyday here if farther NorCali, friendly with the ppl there but IDK how they stay in biz as they seem to be active only a few X per month and the place smells like sewage. I'll never eat there. I guess it's more authentic to it's presumed roots reeking lk that. lol.

@ltdowney During strong storms that overwhelm treatment plants and they dump raw sewage into the ocean, no one wants to swim at the beach. I wouldn't. Yes it was impressive for it's day but those canals can't circulate all that well, wouldn't want to have any contact w that water. If U are OK with it that's your biz.

@ltdowney Such nitrates and algae blooms are a major problem in many places. Florida for example, there it's mainly runoff from lawns. Most places it's more likely agriculture apparently. Yeah in dilute quantities it's fine, cities are concentrations of everything tho. I have no specific interest in Venice per se, it's just an iconic fascinating place that I hope persists and thrives. If they want to shit where they live--not my concern. Tangent::: Don't want to sound crude but I fertilized my "food forests" (modest 1/2 acre lot) with urine to a degree and wish I had practicle way to use all my waste that way, could fertilize everything beyond needs. Nothing organic leaves my place, compost everything. Some use composting toilets, respect but I'm not likely to deal with that process. Yeah I'm not much interested in these arguments anymore, said my bit, we have bigger issues to focus on.

@rwm1980 Not sure what U are referring to but no one has ever drank a drop of water that hasn't passed thru a litany of digestive tracks.

@TheDrexxus It can be used as top quality fertilizer. If U believe there are too many ppl, U know what to do, start with yourself.
2
@TheDrexxus BTW--most of the world is in early stages of population collapse, if you hadn't noticed.

@ulimbombonaulindi5088 Probably live elsewhere. Again--it was great for it's day and not easy to upgrade today. Fascinating city and history.

@johnwang9914 Dysfunctional Socialist states that crap where they live--let's use THEM as aspirational target!
