Really does look like mini-fortress situation tho, who wants such an arduous rout to home and back unless it's security from roving gangsters.

@PeteKiefer Warring tribes was largely the norm as I understand it, not only in N America but perhaps especially here. Our species has a treacherous history probably going back to when we split from common ancestors of chimps, if not much older, chimps are often vicious warmongers too. There's such a strong evolutionary incentive to expand one's own tribe at the expense of any that get in the way, and otherwise propagate our own DNA, regardless of ethical restraints.

@PeteKiefer Not hard to imagine a, say 10 to 1 defense advantage in some of these dwellings, the rewards not worth the cost even if aggressors capable of taking over.
