Greg Snyder You sure didn't manage to leave your Christian "ethics" (an oxymoron for the most part) out of it, but that's not easy to do. It's NOT in one's self interest to do harm to others, self centered yes, not 'selfish' in any broader sense. Do you know any thieves that thrive in life or ever have? I can't think of any, they are all big time losers. The ultimate selfish act is to pass on healthy--in every aspect of the word--children. (I'm using the term "selfish" a little different that you are, you mean self centered and undisciplined like a 2 yr. old or a psychopath, I mean it in terms of self interest in the broadest sense including the general well being of everyone on the planet and the planet itself) A long term relationship between parents that is of maximum benefit to children is entirely possible without monogamy or linking bank accounts and such. Often parents do more damage to their children by staying together FOR the kids even after the two adults have grown to loath eachother, in that situation it's probably best to split time with the kids. Also some children do very well being raised by the "tribe" as a whole, the local community or broader family as would be necessary anyway if one or both parents die while their children are young.
