@lawrencehalpin6611 Mining and processing the minerals happens once, all the metals will be endlessly recycled, batts are very high grade "ore". Yes there is some 'reprocessing' obviously, but much less than 1st time from the ground. True it requires significantly more energy to make a BEV from raw materials the first time, that is made up for in first 30k miles give or take, via 3X better efficiency.

Certainly could say that about my Commifornia, and many are moving, but like the nation as a whole, the pendulum has began swinging Right. Cali differential between Dem and R was cut in half between this election and prior. Newsom doubling down on his insanity but I don't think he has much of a chance to be president which is his goal, good chance he won't make governor again.

You will. Being an electrician doesn't indicate U know anything about BEVs. By end of decade very few use cases will make an ICE a rational choice over BEV.

Always been the case that the biggest cost by far, for a new car, is depreciation. Particularly for "premium" variants. See what a 5 yr old rubbish Escalade goes for.

@cesilpreston Look at the actual numbers, BEVs continue to increase sales globally. Sorry reality clashes with your emotional needs but BEVs are taking over, won't happen overnight but it's happening and for good reasons. Not just stupid mandates.

@lawrencehalpin6611 Folks road trip Teslas across the nation all the time, in fact now that they drive themselves--many can't imagine doing it any other way. True it may add an hr to a 10hr trip if U are one to want to drive near nonstop that long.

@cesilpreston IDK about UK in particular, globally it's definitely growing as % of new car sales. Vast majority in America will never go back to ICE from BEV. Exceptions for those who can't charge at home and a few outliers. I'd be insane to choose a new Camry, or similar, over a Tesla Model 3. If one bought at peak in 2020ish, they definitely saw accelerated depreciation, demand drove prices high and Tesla plus Chinese brands are advancing rapidly, offering better for less, that's not great if a car is an "investment" but it's great for new buyers. Cars aren't investments anyway, they are pricy liabilities. Car sales are way down in general, so make sure U are comparing % of new sales, not absolute numbers.

@MatthewBerginGarage Model Y is best seller globally, vast majority to individual owners. Governments aren't that smart, they always lag, but police are beginning to use Teslas bc they are so much better and save some $5k/yr on fuel and maintenance, quiet and stay climate controlled and powered indefinitely while parked.

Norway has gone over 90% BEVs for new vehicles, they do fine there. I used to spend 30 minutes warming up my 1-ton service truck to thaw it out on a 20F morning, a Tesla can do that in 10 minutes on pre-scheduled basis or phone app, don't even need go out to vehicle. Yes BEVs lose some range, maybe 20% for a Tesla, in very cold conditions, so do ICE cars including the warmup time, running while not moving to keep warm, etc. None of that justifies mandates however, let the darn market decide, the trajectory is clear.

@MatthewBerginGarage Suit yourself. I used to be fine working on my '66 Chevy 1-ton service truck, couple hrs every week too. Don't want to do that anymore. For $60k I could get a Model 3 that outperforms a new BMW M3 that cost twice as much. (still love my 2011 BMW M3 but won't ever buy expensive ICE again) For $40k a new Model 3 that outperforms 95% of cars on the road, near zero maintenance, far cheaper to operate, no more gas station stops, just plug in at home.

@MatthewBerginGarage Quality new batts will outlast an ICE engine, you'll want a newer better car in, say 250k miles, anyway. Batt is a non-issue in most cases. But choice is paramount, let the market sort it out, and I want to continue option of an old ICE sports car for weekends, or whatever.

Don't even think about parking your ICE car in the yard, they burn 10 to 30X more often than BEVs.

@TTFN55 ICE cars burn some 10 to 30X more often overall, hybrids are the worst. And EVs do not explode, only ICE do that, but they are hard to extinguish.

@Me__Myself__and__I Correct about most recycling, WRONG about metals, 70% of all aluminum ever mined is still in use today. Steel always goes back to the mill, and those are cheap abundant metals. Batteries are being recycled. Pay attention, posted couple short vids above.

@jamesstacey529 Coal only powers a small minority of the grid in most developed countries, that's a laughable notion, and since a BEV is 3X as efficient as ICE it works out in net benefit. But let the market place decide, the trajectory is obvious. Mandates are stupid and counterproductive. My 'old' 2011 BMW M3 weighs 3500lbs, new one is 4000, BEVs are not necessarily much heavier. What does a F150 or F250 weigh? Similar to Cybertruck I believe and F is a fragile chrome plastic grocery getter.

They couldn't carry demand for everyone with an air conditioner when those were new, a decade later when everyone had an AC the grid tripled to meet demand, no crisis required.

@davejohnson3773 Dead batt packs, varies widely, but are worth on the order of $1000. Yes they are profitably recycled TODAY, recovering 95% of metals. Again--it's extremely high grade ore, how would you not use it as such? At a commercial charger it's highly variable, but still generally significantly cheaper than gas/diesel. Charging at home isn't even close, like $6 or $10 vs $50 for gas. One Uber driver I know of saves enough to make his Tesla payment 2X over, and he relies on Superchargers alone, the pricy way to charge. Granted his use case far higher miles than average and that matters. No offense, but U don't know what U are talking about. I talked to a father of two college kids and he claimed to save $20k over a couple yrs on "fuel" alone. He bought a cheap used EV for them so it was highly cost effective. IDK what UK electric utility cost are but your petrol is expensive. U should look into it.

@richlawrence4160 "In some remote places". Where ppl actually LIVE that's mostly false. Homes w solar generally also have batt backup, if they don't then they sell to the grid during peak day hrs and fill their vehicle during cheaper night grid hrs. U can also power your home for a week off your BEV during an outage. Try that with your obsolete ICE. You can also use BEV to assist the grid and make significant money off the arbitrage in many cases.

@davebrown8260 Lol. China has over 100 BEV companies and Tesla has 20% BEV market share in that most competitive auto market on Earth, despite the domestic brands being subsidized by CCP. And it's the ONLY one making money at all and making best margins in mass production segment of any MFG anywhere, including ICE MFGs. (likes of Ferrari don't apply)

@kb9gkc Huh?? Talking about demand on the grid not max circuit capacity. AC obviously requires a big increment supply increase over no AC. Anyone can plug their cars into standard home circuits, that doesn't mean everyone all at once tomorrow can do it and the utilities have the supply for it.

@kb9gkc Matters none to the grid if the kwh are locally intermittent or continuous except to what degree everyone is doing it at the same time, arbitrage mitigates that. Entire USA could run on a 100mile square patch of Nevada desert covered in solar panels backed by batteries. Just for perspective, it won't be concentrated like that. I'll be off the grid in a few yrs entirely powered by the sun including cars. Won't take a century any more than it took a century to go from horse and buggies to petrol infrastructure, that happened in a decade. That's hilarious nonsense, the market is vastly more effective than that even with government ineptitude in the mix.

@kb9gkc I see--depends on circumstances, we have stupid Cali corrupt policies and about the highest electric costs in the nation so it may pay over a decade or less, but as U'd know, it's maybe more about independence than economics. We also have strong mostly consistent sun.

You'll be driving or riding in a BEV soon enough, it'll be the poor man's choice, already the prosperous rational persons choice. Nickle is not required, more copper is but the market will figure that out and it's ALL going to be recycled endlessly. Mandates are retarded, let the market decide that too, it's obvious BEVs are the future.
