@Bud131 No one is that stupid, it's about monetary discipline, deferred rewards, living below one's means or struggle. Simple.

It's a lot harder to live hand to mouth and pay double for everything which is exactly the result of failing to live below one's means "If I can't pay cash for it twice I can't afford it."

@mocheen4837 Common way before social media too. Is it not the entire reason for "The Rate Race" trap? Constantly over extended. Spurred on by advertising but ultimately "keeping up with the Jones's" a personal problem. Why do this yr car models look different than last yr? ONLY so everyone can see that YOU have the new model so YOU must be better off then others when more likely you are simply hamstringing your future. Fam friend, mid class, EXCEPTIONAL at his teaching job , drove beat up VW beetle for decades past due date (rebuilt the engine personally, and whatever...). Always admired that, got the job done at minimal cost and he didn't give a crap about status.
