  1. One bad pothole can do more damage every 10 minutes to cars than it would require to fix the damn hole. Stupidly inefficient. Higher gas taxes are a nobrainer if the funds actually go where they are intended. Vastly higher vehicle mpg and inflation have drastically cut effective money over the last 2 decades.
