  1. Everyone seems to forget that we have been subsidizing the heck out of fossil fuels since day one. Trillions of of tax dollars have gone into protecting the Persian Gulf ONLY to protect the oil shipping lanes, the environmental cost associate with consumption are NOT being paid upfront as they should be....difficult to estimate but certainly not zero. (those are a couple *indirect subsidies*) If you believe bin Laden-- 9/11 would not have happened if not for our relations with Saudi which were, obviously, all about petroleum. Direct subsidies (according to Forbes): "between 1994 and 2009 the U.S. oil and gas industries received a cumulative $446.96 billion in subsidies, compared to just $5.93 billion given to renewables in those years."
