@Jobratedman True that permitting a big problem in the USA, a decade where it takes 2.5 yrs in Canada, less in many other places.
Complete nonsense about overall costs involved which is easily demonstrated just on the surface--the price of the final product: GOOD BEVs out of China in approximate cost parity with ICE counterparts.
If not mined in the US it will be elsewhere, we're not talking platinum and palladium required for ICE cars here, but far more common elements.
Every input from diesel used in mining to refining, transportation...*everything is in the batteries themselves* (obviously) the best of those are in the $10k range and heading to $5k in coming yrs. Highly competitive, game over for the old guard.
(legacy auto mfgs need not apply here, they are all dying, GM, VW, to Toyota, and very inefficient)
Ni, manganese, cobalt are NOT REQUIRED for cars or stationary storage any longer. Ni will continue to be needed or desired for more demanding higher energy density applications, manganese in small quantities.
