@lindseystein9676 They took guns to protect themselves and detain a suspect. Do I think that there was no racism involved? No but I do concede that he was a suspect and that the shooting only took place when Ahmaud tried to wrestle the gun away from Travis.

@emersonmanning6523 Ahmaud did not have to submit to the detention and should have kept running. The problem with your argument is that when he attempted to wrestle the gun away from Travis, the shooting took place. Therefore it could be argued that Ahmaud contributed to his own demise.

@lindseystein9676 I think you're referring to the father. He worked with LE before he retired. If Ahmaud had kept running and they shot him, that would be a case of murder. In this case it could be argued that Travis shot Ahmaud in self defence.

@lindseystein9676 Ahmaud was only shot in the chest when he tried to wrestle the gun away from Travis McMichael. You claim they had him trapped. All he had to do was keep running. If they shot him while running away this would be a case of murder but when Ahmaud veered off the right side and went for the shotgun, it becomes a case of self defence. Note that not one shot was fired till Ahmaud tried to wrestle the gun away from Travis.

@emersonmanning6523 The problem with that reasoning if he had the right to fight for his life, it could be argued that Travis had the same right to fight for his life. If Ahmaud had gained control of the gun, Travis would be the one lying in the middle of the street with a hole in his chest.

@emersonmanning6523 So if you were holding a shotgun and I tried to wrestle the shotgun away from you with the intention of killing and striking you while I do that, you don't have the right to self defence. Ahmaud was not the victim till he went for the gun.

@emersonmanning6523 There are charges but if the defence can portray the case as a self defence case, the McMichael's will be convicted of manslaughter not murder.

@lindseystein9676 To say he was trapped is inocorrect. He just had to keep running on the right hand side of the road. Once he deviated his path and tried to wrestle the gun from Travis, both men had the right to self defence. Do you honestly think the McMichael's ventured out to murder him or detain him? I think the latter and the situation went south once Ahmaud fought back. The McMichael's didn't expect Ahmaud to try and take one of their guns.

@kultofbunny So Ahmaud was running down a dead end street? He could have run back, he could have waited for police to arrive and explain his side of the story, he didn't have to go for the gun.
