Unfortunately for Duante it's too late for him to learn the lesson that if you comply you will not die.
17
It showed his intent. He wanted to get away that was his only goal. In doing so he put all officers and his passenger in harm's way. Kim Potter was justified to use lethal force and therefore if the shooting is justified the charge of manslaughter is moot.
9
Duante Wright caused his own death.
6
She will be acquitted on all charges. She should never have been charged in the first place.
5
The shooting is justified and therefore she will walk.
4
Duante Wright was responsible for his death.
4
Unless you're putting officers in harm's way. The shooting was justified so manslaughter is off the table.
4
@jbtpa895 Don't be a criminal, don't have a warrant, don't resist arrest and don't try and flee with a police officer in your car.
4
He defended his client as any good defence lawyer would do. He annihilated the state's case and proved that the causation of this shooting was Daunte Wright. He then proceeded to show that the shooing was justified and this is a mock trial. Kim Potter should never have been charged.
4
@Flatbush4Life You're comparing apples and oranges. Daunte was a criminal who was using his car as a weapon. The shooting was justified and therefore no manslaughter charge can stick.
3
@RnBReworked A criminal lost his life due to his poor choices in life. Don't cry for a criminal.
3
@Flatbush4Life If they have probable cause then yes they are entitled to command you to stop and question you.
3
@sonval3997 He wouldn't be a criminal but an upstanding member of society.
3
@jakub6786 Yes it was an accidental shooting. She meant to shoot her taser but shot her gun. In any case the shooting was justified and therefore any manslaughter charge is negated.
3
No the shooting was justified as Daunte was using his car as a weapon with a police officer half in the car. Her actions saved officer Johnson that day.
2
Her focus was on Daunte. She got tunnel vision and shot him. In any case the shooting is justified so there are no grounds for manslaughter.
2
@darinmcnatt9321 It means that if the mob don't get the verdict they want i.e. manslaughter in the 1st and 2nd, they will burn, loot and murder people. They make martyrs out of criminals and there is an erosion of justice because lawmakers don't stand up to the mob but try and appease them.
2
@darinmcnatt9321 There's a mountain of evidence which suggest she will be acquitted. Unless the jurors fear the mob.
2
If the shooting is deemed justified, it negates any charge of manslaughter against the defendant.
2
The shooting was justified.
2
@joni8090 The officers testified that the shooting was justified. Therefore no manslaughter charge will stick and Kim will walk free.
2
@joni8090 No they said you're not going to jail because if Daunte got control of the car he would have dragged me along with it. Well done officer Kim.
2
@joni8090 They did not have control of the vehicle. Daunte was still resisting and trying to flee. Only when the threat was neutralized were the officers safe. Potter screamed she shot him because she thought she was using her taser when in reality she had a gun in her hand. If the shooting is justified the charge of manslaughter is negated. She had the right to use deadly force or taser him. Either way her actions were justified.
2
@joni8090 The evidence shows that she had the right to use deadly force and in so doing any manslaughter charge is negated and rendered null and void.
2
@DriveInFreak People would see police as a threat when they disobey the law and engage in criminal activity like Duante. Thank God he's off the streets - permanently. ;)
2
Because the shooting is deemed justified, she will walk. She could have used her taser or gun. She thought she was using her taser but used her gun. To argue this is negligence is akin to splitting hairs. At the end of the day the shooting is justified and she will walk.
2
@DriveInFreak Duante caused his own death and his shooting was justified.
2
@naaali4057 The causation clause alone will acquit Kim Potter. Daunte's actions superseded the actions and Kim Potter and therefore it was Daunte that caused his own death.
2
She had the right to taser him or shoot him. Either way the use of deadly force was permitted in this instance. Since it was a justified shooting, any charge of manslaughter is negated.
2
@joni8090 The shooting was justified and the causation is due to Daunte's actions not Kim Potter's actions. Therefore she will be acquitted.
2
Unless the shooting is justified as it is in this case. She could have shot or tasered him.
2
@shanaritsema1267 It can't be manslaughter if the shooting is deemed justified.
2
Marijuana in certain individuals can make them more aggressive. This could explain why Duante was aggressive and got back in the car.
1
@sierrannomad The verdict means nothing when it's wrong.
1
Unfortunately the jury were a bunch of idiots who bowed to the will of the mob. Not one juror could stand up for the truth.
1
He made very good points. Daunte was responsible for his own death as his actions superseded those of officer Potter's. Officer Potter's shooting was justified and so any manslaughter charge is negated. She made a mistake therefore she can not be found guilty of consciously causing death or bodily harm.
1
@codyrussow170 Daunte was the criminal and thank God he's off the streets - permanently. ;)
1
@jeffreysimms2318 If he was white she'd be acquitted because his actions justified the use of deadly force. To compare this case to Kyle Rittenhouse is like comparing apples to oranges. The only thing in common is the use of deadly force. In both cases deadly force was permitted.
1
@jakub6786 Quit defending criminals. Don't shed one tear for a criminal. This was a waste of tax payer's money to prosecute an innocent woman. The shooting was justified.
1
@joni8090 She was found guilty due to the threat of mob violence.
1
@joni8090 No she was found guilty cause the jury failed. LOL.
1
She made the mistake but the shooting was justified.
1
@McNulty-T That training doesn't prepare an officer for a fluid situation where a criminal resists arrest, gets back into the car and tries to drive away with an officer half in the car.
1
@McNulty-T Training in no way reflects real life events.
1
Brilliant closing argument. The defence of causation is enough to negate any manslaughter charges.
1
@kristinadube7032 Innocent young man? LOL. He's a criminal and he was treated as such. If he had just complied he'd be alive. Remember lethal force in this instance was justified so that negates any manslaughter charge. Officer Kim will walk.
1
@DriveInFreak His actions caused his death. End of discussion.
1
@DriveInFreak There is no defence. How exactly is looting businesses defending yourselves? How is burning down stores defending yourselves? How is murdering people defending yourselves? You want to law to bow to your demands and wishes, but the law is just and justice should prevail without threat from outside influences.
1
@DriveInFreak No you the people are a bunch of babies that will riot if you don't get your way. The law is blind to prejudice and therefore only the facts must stand. This was a justified use of force and no charges are warranted.
1
@DriveInFreak How is driving away with a police officer in the car not grounds of lethal force? Ask a criminal. ;)
1
@DriveInFreak How is a criminal trying to drive away with an officer in the car not grounds for lethal force?
1
@DriveInFreak His actions contributed to his death. Nothing would have happened if he had complied.
1
@Hunee- The only clown is you and I laugh at you 7 days a week and 24 hours per day. ;)
1
@Hunee- I have good news! Daunte will never have to go to prison again. ;)
1
@joni8090 You're a disgrace to your mother. She was only convicted due to fear of the mob. Once again what we got was mob justice.
1
@joni8090 You side with evil and injustice. You support a criminal over an officer who was doing her job. You are disgrace to everything good and just. You love the darkness more than the light.
1
@kristinadube7032 Any perceived threat warrants the use of lethal force especially if the officer life is in danger. Daunte posed a clear and present danger and was dealt with accordingly.
