Ahmaud was a thief. They tried to detain him but Ahmaud went for the shotgun. Shots were only fired when Ahmaud tried to wrestle the gun away from Travis. Any reasonable jury will find all three defendants not guilty on all charges. The men were only brought to trial to appease BLM.

@sigfan765 Travis was not committing a felony. Until recently, citizen's arrests were allowed. Therefore the McMichael's had grounds to detain Ahmaud on suspicion of burglary.

@sigfan765 True but they had suspicion that Ahmaud was a thief as he came into that house on numerous occasions. It was never their intention to kill Ahmaud but to detain him. Unfortunately Ahmaud went for the gun and ended up dead. This is a similar scenario that happened to Joseph Rosenbaum, he went for Kyle's gun and ended up being shot four times.

Didn't you watch the opening statement by the defence? Ahmaud was a thief who was seen multiple times at night in the open house. On an earlier occasion, when confronted by Travis McMichael, Ahmuad reached into his waistband as if to take out a weapon. This is the reason why the McMichael's were armed when they tried to detain Ahmaud. Note that only when Ahmaud went for Travis' shotgun were the shots fired. Everyone knows that you never go for anyone's weapons. This was foolish on the part of Ahmaud. If he had just remained till police arrived, he'd still be alive. Therefore any reasonable jury will find all three defendants not guilty.

@PerryUK They took weapons to detain Ahmaud because from an earlier confrontation it seemed that Ahmaud was armed. Once again watch the video, Ahmaud is only shot when he tried to wrestle the gun away from Travis.

They tried to detain him because Ahmaud was a thief. He was by no means innocent. Any fair minded jury will acquit all three defendants.

@AliceA333 Well the video shows that Ahmaud did approach Travis and tried to wrestle the shotgun away from him. If he did not do this, he'd still be alive. Never go for someone's gun. That is common sense.

Note that both shots only occurred when Ahmaud tried to wrestle the gun away from Travis. We understand why the McMichaels were armed because in an earlier confrontation Ahmaud went into his waistband to retrieve a possible weapon. This is a case of reasonable use of force in self defence. This trial will either result in an acquittal or a hung jury. I can't see the state proving murder.

@sigfan765 Because they were attempting to detain him until police got there and took him into custody. Remember the citizen's arrest law was only overturned after Ahmaud was shot and killed.

@AliceA333 This has nothing to do with race. Ahmaud was a thief. They tried to detain him and Ahmaud went for the gun. This is a simple case of self defence. Should Ahmaud be dead? No but he brought this on himself through his foolish actions. This is why we are taught to never go for a person's gun. The same thing happened with Joseph Rosenbaum and he wound up dead. If Kyle if found not guilty, then Travis McMichael must be found not guilty.

@sigfan765 The old law was still in force until Ahmaud was shot and killed. Here's why the McMichael's may be justified in their attempt to detain Ahmaud. Rules and regulations regarding citizen’s arrest in Georgia can be found under Section 17-4-60 through 61 of the Georgia Criminal Code. Established during the late 1860s, the law authorizes private citizens to make an arrest of others if a crime is committed in their presence or in cases in which they have immediate knowledge that one occurred. It applies when a suspected felony crime is committed, such as: Armed robbery, burglary, and other types of theft crimes; Arson and other types of property crimes; Assault and battery; Drug distribution, manufacturing, and trafficking; Embezzlement, fraud, and other ‘white-collar’ crimes; Kidnapping, rape, and child molestation; Murder, manslaughter, and homicide. A private citizen may make an arrest to prevent the suspect from evading law enforcement and fleeing the scene. Once a citizen’s arrest is made, the arresting person must take the suspect and any belongings removed from them to the police or a judicial officer ‘without unnecessary delay.’ However, if allegations of false arrest or unlawful imprisonment arise out of the situation, the person who made the arrest may face criminal charges themselves.

Ahmaud was a burglar and therefore under the citizen's arrest law, he could be detained. He died as a result of his decision to go for Travis' gun.

@AliceA333 If they intended to murder him they would have shot and killed them the moment they came upon him. They tried to detain him but he foolishly went for the gun. This led to his demise.

The video speaks for itself. In the video you see Ahmaud make a bee line towards Travis in order to get his gun. Mind you that while he is trying to get Travis' gun, he's hitting Travis as well. Ahmaud is only shot when he tries to wrestle the gun out of Travis' hands. In like manner Joseph Rosenbaum is only shot when he went for Kyle Rittenhouse's gun.

When Travis confronted Ahmaud on a previous night, Ahmaud reached into his waistband giving Travis the impression that Ahmaud was armed. This is why they took guns when trying to detain Ahmaud as they believed he was carrying a firearm.

@sigfan765 You forget that they had probable cause to detain Ahmaud due to him illegally entering a home numerous times. Further under GA law at the time of the shooting, citizens are allowed to detain suspects until police come. All three defendants had every intention of detaining Ahmaud that day. Things went south when Ahmaud went for the gun. When Ahmaud went for the shotgun, it was a matter of life of death for both parties i.e. Travis and Ahmaud. When Travis fired the gun twice it was in self defence as at that time Ahmaud was the aggressor. Therefore any fair minded jury will find all three defendants not guilty on all three charges. BLM would have us believe that this is about race. This has nothing to do with race but three individuals who tried to detain a burglary suspect.

@sigfan765 He pointed the gun to detain Ahmaud. Ahmaud then went for his gun and Travis had no option but to shoot in self defence. Case closed.

@sigfan765 They had probable cause due to the fact that Ahmaud entered the property illegally numerous times. We don't know if Ahmaud was the one who stole the stuff. The three men tried to detain Ahmaud but Ahmaud foolishly went for the gun. Travis had no recourse but to shoot killing Ahmaud and saving both his and Greg's life.

The instance you are referring to happened on a previous night when Travis confronted Ahmaud who was hiding behind a portable toilet. Ahmaud emerged and his went into his waistband causing Travis to think he might be armed. If you watch the video, Ahmaud turns to his left and makes a bee line towards Travis in order to take his gun. At this point Travis is entitled to self defence as Ahmaud may take the gun and shoot both him and Greg. Ahmaud is only shot when assaulting Travis and trying to wrestle the gun away from him. It is a clear case of self defence.

@barbara2002 Did you watch the defence attorney's opening statement? They went after him because he was suspected of burglary. Ahmaud had trespassed on that property numerous times. They tried to detain him but unfortunately he went for the gun. In the process he was shot twice. It is a sad outcome but this was a case of self defence.

@AliceA333 Batman stands for justice and justice will prevail. This has nothing to do with race or the lies of BLM that they hunted a black man down. Ahmaud was a thief and a thug and if we examine the video, he was only shot when he went for the gun.

@AliceA333 Travis' son was only a child. Travis saw Ahmaud move his hand towards his waistband and from this he assumed he was going for a weapon. Remember Ahmaud was at that property numerous times. He could have taken a little each time he trespassed. Three men suspected Ahmaud of being a thief and tried to detain him. Ahmaud wouldn't comply and went for the gun. Sadly his actions led to his demise.

Regarding your hypothetical question, if men were trying to detain me I would comply as it would be foolish for me to try and disarm them. The worst they can do is detain me till police arrive. Unfortunately Ahmaud made a poor decision which cost him his life. This is the same reason Joseph Rosenbaum was shot and killed by Kyle Rittenhouse. Joseph went for his gun and was shot four times. Never ever go for someone's gun.

Russell Jordan We must understand that when this took place the Citizen's Arrest Law was still valid. Therefore due to Ahmaud trespassing onto the property numerous times they suspected him of theft. They tried to detain him till police arrived but unfortunately Ahmaud made a poor choice and went for the shotgun. Never go for anyone's gun. That is common sense.

@AliceA333 If Ahmaud had stood still and not tried to wrestle the gun away from Travis, he'd still be alive. They weren't going to kill him. Their intention was to try and detain him till police arrived. This will be shown in court.

Ahmaud was caught on surveillance video on numerous times trespassing on a property. The three men tried to detain Ahmaud but he went for Travis' gun. Once he went for the gun, Travis has the right to self defence.

@barbara2002 You forget that before his death, Georgia law allowed the public to make a citizen's arrest. They were trying to detain Ahmaud as he was suspected of burglary. Note that shots were only fired when Ahmaud went for the gun. If he had complied he'd still be alive today.

@barbara2002 Once he went for Travis' gun, this became a self defence case for Travis McMichael. Is it possible that Ahmaud could have taken the shotgun and turned the gun on Travis and Greg? Yes it is. If he had complied and waited for the police to arrive he'd still be alive.

@starbaby849 They didn't murder him. He died because he went for the gun and was shot in self defence. Remember according to the law, all the three men needed was reasonable and probable grounds of suspicion.

@starbaby849 Was Ahmaud seen fleeing from the property? Yes. Was Ahmaud seen no less than five times trespassing on Mr. English's property? Yes. Therefore the men had reasonable and probable grounds to arrest Ahmaud on suspicion of theft. Ahmaud contributed to his own demise once he went for the gun. He could have kept running straight or to the right. Instead he went for the gun and was shot in self defence. The three men are innocent according to the law.

@starbaby849 Incorrect. The neighbor spotted Ahmaud fleeing and pointed Greg in the Ahmaud's direction. Read the law again. As long as the three men had reasonable and probable grounds of suspicion they were allowed to arrest Ahmaud.

@underdog7495 If he was going to be shot on sight they would have shot him the minute they came in close proximity to him. His decision to veer to the left and try and wrestle the gun away from Travis proved his downfall.

@hollydavis06 I agree there's no death penalty for robbery but Ahmaud brought the death sentence upon himself when he went for Travis' gun. Notice that Ahmaud was only shot when he tried to wrestle the shotgun away from Travis. If Ahmaud had successfully gained control of the shotgun, is it a possibility that he would have used it against Travis and his father? Yes it is and therefore if you were in the same position as Travis, you would have fired the shotgun. Therefore as I stated before any fair minded jury will find all three defendants not guilty.

@sigfan765 The shotgun was a deterrent. Ahmaud should have just complied and he'd still be alive. It's only when he went for the shotgun that he was shot. Therefore the defence will argue that Travis acted in self defence. If Ahmaud got hold of the shotgun, Travis would be the one lying in the middle of the street with a hole in his chest.
