  1. I believe there were mitigating factors such as her father being an alcoholic and she threw the lye at him in a fit of rage because he was drunk and couldn't take her to her hair appointment. She didn't mean to kill him, if she understood that throwing the lye would result in both of his legs being amputated and eventually end in death, she wouldn't have thrown it. It was never her intention to kill him. I think we need to balance justice with compassion in cases such as this.
