This is concerned to the capacity in developments. The Japanese had not the capacity to develop better fighters than the vulnerable Zero. And if you remark, that the Zero is vulnerable, than you have lost already to many pilots. And it is not possible to train them in a short period. And as long as non one attacks the US mainland, the enemy can do it without any disturbances. If someone had invaded Texas, the entire us oil supply would have been broken. This is the warfare the Japanese hesitated to wage. Instead they wasted their troops on useless islands.

@whyus2000 by which sources pls?

@whyus2000 do you know the US site Veterans today? One of the Senior Managers, Gordon Duff, a Vietnam-Veteran, is on the same opinion. I did not invent the thought. The point is, Japanese strategy was defensive, means the US destine the point and time of battle. As long as you attack, you destine the melee.

@whyus2000 Gordon Duff is well known and accepted as a writer. What you do not understand is, that Roosevelt sacrified his battleship crews. Attacking the US mainland would have enforced the navy to battle. There were no defence measures preparations at the US West coast.

@whyus2000 you are well disinformed. The source or the leak was a call of Roosevelt with Churchill, which the German B-Dienst intercepted. You should check your historical knowledge, there might be some improvement possible. The Brits and the US imposed an oil-embargo over Japan. At this time the Japanese had oil-reserves for 90 days. When they attacked Pearl Habour they had still reserves for 70 days. We have not to dream to know that Roosevelt wanted war. An industrialized country as Japan cannot exist without oil. Do not tell us fairy tales about your colonial propaganda dept.

@BluePegasus1381 Dear Meathel, this is correct. Japan never had the capacity to fight any war against the US at all. So the outcome was inevitable. The Japanese as the Germans hoped for the 1% chance for a change of the political envirement in the US. But the Japanese, as the German leadership knew that they lost the war. The Germans knew it at the end of January '42, the Japanese from the beginning. But for Asian people face-keeping is more important than any death. From this perspective with a certain empathy for Asian characters, it would had made no difference for the outcome to attack the US mainland. But the strategic use of the availabe japanese forces would have been more effective than to occupy hundreds of islands. The US & Britsh oil-embargo was the main reason for this war in the Pacific, and both western powers provoked it. But, Maethel, become a Japanese admiral and think about your forces and the most effective effort. The Panama-Chanal and the US Westcoast would have definetly hurt the US more than anything else. And in the end of 1941, the US had not the navy-forces in the Pacific to stop the Japanese Imperial Navy. All US warships at the US Westcoast naval bases would have been lost. They were not ready for service. This could have been a decisive blow for peace-negotiations to stop the oil-embargo.

@BluePegasus1381 All your points are correct. But what was the main problem of the Japanese navy? To find the US warships in the Pacific and to determine the time and place of battle. Niemitz had the advantage of better radar technology and superiour reconnaisance. An attack of the US homeland would have enforced the melee with the remaining US warships in the Pacific at the US Westcoast. Check Drach's vids, when British BBs attacked any landscape in the Atlantic (French coast) and the meditteranean. And check the US coastal defences or any useless homeland security in Washington state, Oregon or California.
