Ya don't use block, ya use cephFS

Sure, use Zerotier, Tailscale, Twingate, Openziti etc

Just encrypt the data then nobody outside can read it. Or you could connect it to the network by a separate network switch...that switch is powered by a smart plug or just about any kind of light switch. Like a motion switch so you have to be in the room etc. When light switch or smart plug is on the network switch is powered and the server is on the network, when powered off it's disconnected from the network. Sort of an airgap effect

@therealroga First world problems :)

If you got a computer you got a server

I think just add it to the pool

Sure pay for help or learn to fix things yourself

HUH, any server/computer can be one

Once the SMB shares are created you just Map them in WIN, nothing special

If router fails, yes whole network fails. Main switch fails then yes whole network fails. 1 device fails the rest continue to perform...If you can't see the benefits then it's WAY over your head so ignore and keep using your Windows

Your question doesn't even make sense. It's a processor and runs the computer, that really has nothing to do with security or Linux.

Got $...tech support requires time...which means $ unless you can barter something equal

As a pro, maybe you would be better able to make a vid on that topic???

@darkphotographer Yes so many are very clueless. Remember a review of a HDD I read. The guy bashed the drive CO for a failing drive. He had like 8 yrs of multiple client data on it...and it failed he lost everything. The clients were pissed at him for losing all their data. He lost some of the clients. All I was reading was an idiot of a business owner

I quit after 2 haha

For a home probably 1 20a circuit is fine. That 's like 2400w at 120v. Calculated by 20a * 120v = 2400w. But you could always add a 2nd 20a. I can give you a bunch of tips on planning and layout of your network too. Got a vid of Home networking basics on my channel. Tips in the pinned comments.

Yea but we have technology too. Few solar panels with some grid tie inverters would pump power in to the grid during sun, which greatly helps offset the power costs

You mean configured or setup, it's designed well it seems.

You can use a Kill A Watt to plug in anything and measure the data usage. OR a better idea I've found is get a smart plug with energy monitoring and use that. Gives you real time wattage use of whatever is plugged in. 15a circuit is about 15a * 120v = 1800w, so safe full time load is about 1500w. A 20a circuit is about 2400w so maybe 2000w safe full time load. An average gaming system is around 300w under load, just for comparison

All basic system setup

You NEED internet at remote location. But you're asking about a VPN access to your home network so yes. These days Use Zerotier, Tailscale, Twingate, Openziti etc

I counted 113 times...now where's my award for being right???

That does add a bit of real life for many of us

Very cool, I see the obvious data uses for it. Just FYI these Corps use it Geico Comcast Ford Motors SpaceX Openstack AMD
1
Huh...ya can't use other FS with it

New vpn like Zerotier, Tailscale, Twingate, Openziti or others. Then mapping is fairly normal. I've found though one needs the IP address for mapping using those.
