  3. I would stay away from them. Two high profile cases of people who worked with thousands of people trying to change them eventually realized it was a failure and no one changed. What the people in this video are doing is changing their behaviour and their self-identification, not changing their underlying biology. a man attracted to men will never lose that attraction, they can only suppress it - and often only for a while before the pressure to satisfy their biological needs gets too high. furthermore, failure to change as expected has led to psychological problems such as shame, depression, substance misuse and suisidal ideation. please do not subject your child to these horrors. if a woman is attracted to women (or whatever the issue is), that is unlikely to change. such a woman who marries a man is potentially ruining both their lives. if the man is in love with her, it will be unrequited - the woman will at best see him as a close friend, not a romantic partner. such marriages often fail. I recommend having a look at what professional medical bodies say on this issue and not rely on a bunch of people who have been misled by harmful ideology masquerading as religious experience.

The right thing to do is to embrace and affirm them for how God has made them. If your church teaches you otherwise, for their sake and for your family's get the heck out of there.

  9.  @lukesalter9600  from what i've read, people can't force themselves to change. it appears that a small number of people, usually women, might find their preference change over time by itself, apparently for most it's not a preference. it's a part of their biology that is persistent and resistant to change.

  14. @Jesus is great! You're 14 and I'm over 4 times your age. You don't have the same breadth of experience of life. There are reasons why you might have a different perception to others. At your age you can easily believe what you're told and mistake your personal experience for something it's not. You can think your personal experience must apply to everybody. You may not even fully understand yourself. A spiritual experience can excite you enough to let you to do something you might not have thought possible. Or give you the perception you've achieved something you haven't. Even if something has legitimately changed in your life, this is rare. Most people do not change their innate biology as a result of coming to faith, in answer to prayer or counselling, or whatever. In fact, when they've been told they can change but then fail when they try as they typically will, it can have serious mental health consequences. Calling someone else sad and brainwashed is rude. It is also ignorant when what they are stating is in accordance with what major medical associations advise. I would kindly request an apology for your outburst to whomever it was directed. I would also suggest you read the scientific literature on this issue before you make further unsubstantiated criticisms.

It might only just barely be OK if it works for them, but for those who are just suppressing their true sessuality, the problems come years later when they give in to what their innate biology is craving and succumb to "temptation" and feel dreadful about what they've done, or when they realize they're living a lie, or when their marriages break down because they're not really in love, or when they meet someone and fall in love for real and discover what they were missing.

  17. it's not. but centuries ago, the church came to the conclusion that secs was bad and that it was only allowed for the purpose of making babies. that meant that gay secs was only for pleasure, and that was a bad thing. last century, the protestant branch of the church changed its mind on that issue, but unfortunately because of a mistranslation in the Bible replaced it with the belief that being gay was itself a sin that people needed to repent of. when they were forced to explain why it could be wrong, they made up this argument that because God approved of men and women getting married, it somehow meant that God disapproves of gay relationships. Go figure. This is changing now, but the people in the video still hold the now discredited idea that you can "repent" from being gay. it's about suppressing their innate desires and forcing themselves into straight relationships. it works either by sheer willpower, or because some are sufficiently bi that they can make it work. many times it doesn't work - they eventually can't take it anymore, or they fall in love for real, realize what they've been missing and leave their straight marriage.

Virtually every health association in many countries warn against even trying.   21.  @hopedhokhacee8367  oh hold on a minute, come to think of it, there was this idea suggested two thousand years after the incident that God destroyed them because men were bedding men. no, just read the bible it says clearly why they were destroyed and it has nothing to do with being gay. so that silly idea has captured people's imagination and survived to the present? unbelievable! you see, it makes no sense. gays are only a small proportion of the population. whoever heard of a whole town of gays? plus it says "young and old". if they were all gay, where did the young come from? and who were lot's daughters betrothed to if they were all gay? that theory is so ridiculous it's trivially refutable.

If you really want the Bible to spell it out for you, read in the gospels how Jesus condemns religious oppression, imposing unbearable burdens, misuse of scripture, placing religious rules over compassion, making children stumble, human traditions that nullify the word of God, etc. Also consider Gen 2. If God himself said it's not good to be alone, what right do you have to tell people they can't love and be loved by someone?

But it is not a broad prohibition on all gay secs. The New Testament says something is a serious sin but uses a word of unknown meaning. It could be about males doing it with males, but again, the meaning is disputed, and from context it is about harmful behaviour from which people are able to change. It's not about people who are not hurting anyone and cannot change their secsual orientation. According to Ezekiel, those people in Abraham's time were destroyed because of their callous disregard for other people's welfare. Their attempted gang raip of God's messengers illustrates their character. It had nothing whatsoever to do with two guys or two women wanting to have a loving relationship.

  36.  @irumnageen2443  I'm talking about disputed in academic journals. If you read in detail what different points of view say and their reasons, the uncertainties are justified. The majority are not always right. The majority of outspoken Christian teachers (don't know about other religions) don't like gay secs, but they turn a blind eye to the horrific damage their teaching has done to innocent people especially youth. That's why at the grass-roots level Christians are split 50-50 on this issue. Whole denominations are splitting over this issue too, because they want to stop people being hurt. People today who appeal to what was said in the past easily misunderstand the motives and understanding of those in the past. For example, early Christians opposed males bedding males in part because it was most commonly adults bedding children. Later Christians opposed it only because two men can't make babies, but Christians today often have secs without making babies. But people today misquote what was said in the past and claim that their views were the same as today. No, they were not. This issue is not as straightforward as many like to claim. And if you dig a little under the surface, the justification for oppressing a vulnerable minority group who are not doing anything to hurt anyone crumbles very easily.

  38. @o.o as i explained in my other reply, it's not a sin. Jesus said that everything in the bible is based on loving God and loving neighbour. Paul similarly points out that all God's commands are satisfied by loving one another. If two men or two women are in a relationship characterized by mutual respect, care, kindness, faithfulness and so on, then they are loving each other, and therefore are necessarily obeying ALL God's commands. I don't see any way around this. Sure, God's word points out where we fall short, and God's message of acceptance through Jesus calls us to turn to him in repentance from our sin. But homosecsaultiy is NOT one of those sins. Read Galatians 5. Sin is disregarding God and putting ourselves before others, arrogance, selfishness, greed and so on, things that actually hurt people. Obeying God is by doing good, being compassionate, faithful, patient, characteristics that help us do good. You don't have to change your orientation to stop practising the works of the flesh and start having the fruit of the Spirit. It's not even possible to change it anyway, and attempting it can be dangerous to life and health. The reason many think it's a sin is because male-bedders in 1 Cor 6 and 1 Tim 1 have been mistranslated as homosecsuals or similar. It is very easy to show that this is a mistranslation.

  39. @o.o wth!? eph 5 talks about how husbands should treat their wives in a society where husbands wielded all the power in the relationship. it talks about slaiv owners exactly the same way - does that mean we should have slaivry? just because the Bible says that husbands should love their wives does not mean it's a sin for two men or two women to have a similar relationship. it's like saying that being allowed to eat vegetables means that you're not allowed to eat bread. one doesn't logically follow from the other. every mention of marriage within the Bible is of man plus woman. or man plus two or more women. or man plus woman plus a concubine or two. just because there are no instances of two men or two women is circumstantial evidence. there were other reasons for it, nothing to do with homsoexualtiy allegedly being a sin. every mention of make-up in the bible is negative. what does that tell you about make-up? i explained to you why christians have these warped ideas about homoseuxaltiy. you should pay a bit more attention and not ignore the facts.

In this particular case we have plenty of evidence that there was a mistranslation. We know the history of what happened, how the mistake was made, and the horrific consequences that ensued.

But they ignore that this is equally true for straight hedonistic lifestyles, and throw the baby out with the bathwater, thinking that the error is gay secs, not hedonism. The trouble is that such a position is also destructive. Children have been subjected to anguish and distress, alienated from parents and even died. The better approach is to acknowledge the diversity in God's creation and to encourage loving committed relationships in accordance with their orientation.
