"social construct" yeah my greek relatives annoyed me by not recognizing orange as a colour. they'd either call it yellow or red depending what it was closest too. it really annoyed me because my personal perceptive response is seeing R, RO, O, YO, Y as distinct colours.
but they don't have a single word for brown, they have three words, "maron" (reddish brown), "cafe" (coffee, dark brown), and "castano" (chestnut, also colour in brown eyes).
incidentally, greeks also distinguish sky colour ("galazio", azure) from blue ("ble", more like ultramarine). it's only because i was brought up in australia that i sew them lumped together as blue but in reality they're quite different colours occupying different hues on the colour wheel.
