  1.  @redandinata4568  in modern greek sky colour (azure in english) is a separate word from blue but no idea about ancient greece. this web page gives some details, hope it's correct. http://ibiblio.org/bgreek/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5052 many of those words survive today but there are some differences and newer words too. the sea takes on several different shades of blue depending on the weather. maybe wine colour was one of those shades.

"social construct" yeah my greek relatives annoyed me by not recognizing orange as a colour. they'd either call it yellow or red depending what it was closest too. it really annoyed me because my personal perceptive response is seeing R, RO, O, YO, Y as distinct colours. but they don't have a single word for brown, they have three words, "maron" (reddish brown), "cafe" (coffee, dark brown), and "castano" (chestnut, also colour in brown eyes). incidentally, greeks also distinguish sky colour ("galazio", azure) from blue ("ble", more like ultramarine). it's only because i was brought up in australia that i sew them lumped together as blue but in reality they're quite different colours occupying different hues on the colour wheel.

  3. greek has the same two words, maron and cafe (coffee), and there's also castano (chestnut) although they might emphasize different shades.
