i think one of the most significant aspects of the modern scientific method was galileo's idea of using mathematics. i may be wrong, but until then, mathematics and geometry were used in astronomy but not to describe motion and cause and effect on earth. today, all the fundamental laws of nature are understood in mathematical terms.

you'll have to excuse my ignorance but i didn't even know monet had done anything that late in his life let alone any single work of that scale ... and battling cataracts and grief while at it. thanks so much for sharing your insights.

Surprised me how you pointed out how much we don't know ...

thanks for the herculean effort putting all this together!

no, in australia we didn't learn the formula, but luckily i came across it somewhere and was so enthralled by it, i used it in class to my teacher's dismay.

so da vinci knew about aerial perspective, lighting, shading, transparency, anatomy, horizon, skin tones, composition, ... ... all the things you learn for modern digital art!

enlightening and entertaining video as always! one thing that bugs me about tempera - why doesn't the egg rot over time?

great work! i wasn't following this mission so it's good to know about it when it's about to happen!

since we didn't have calculators, i had to get a slide rule for school. then i got my hands on a circular slide rule. i ended up using the circular one more for most things.

someone once told me that the median, incentre and circumcentre (but not the orthocentre) lie on a straight line. i managed to prove it, but also discovered something else. if you join up the three sides' midpoints to form an interior triangle, the three centres remain except two of them switch roles.

@WK-5775 TBH i can't remember now. one of the centres didn't seem to relate to the other three.

area of triangle = 1/4 hypotenuse length = sqrt5 / 2 little triangle is similar with hypotenuse 1/2 so area of little triangle = area of triangle / 5 = 1/20 triangle is made of two little triangles plus trapezium so trapezium area is 3 times little triangle area = 3/20 entire square area = 1 = 4 little triangles + 4 trapezia + centre square centre square area = 1 - 4 little triangles + 4 trapezia = 1 - 4/20 - 12/20 = 1/5 therefore answer is 0.2
