@no_clot_shot1128 I've practiced in school (former East Germany) how to immediatly throw on the ground and cover up your face in case of a nuclear attack. We also practiced turning a shopping bag / plastic bag and a tea towel into mask against the nuclear dust.

@m.e.7100 in the 1980's this building method was subsidized by the federal state adminstration of Bavaria - though I'm not sure if it was required.

Halftimbered houses were the standard in Germany for centuries - not because they did not know how to build with stone or brick or had forgotten it. It was just much cheaper / cost efficient way. Houses made completly from stone or brick were only for the very wealthy and used for castles, palaces, townhalls, churches etc. Consequently, in the 19th century existing halftimbered were considered as poor and were often covered up on the exterior (or least a the front to the street) with plasture and stucco in order to give it a more solid appearance. At the same time new buildings were built with bricks then, because through the industrial revolution and mass production bricks became cheaper.
