A dynamo just creates friction and makes it harder to peddle, you would be better off with a rechargeable light. Also a recumbent is much more comfortable, although usually lower.

@wimahlers And somehow the dynamo isn't going to get stolen or start rusting? I doubt it would be bright enough anyways. Maybe keep it as a backup plan, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

@wimahlers And what do you base your claims on? You don't have any citation, or even basic reasoning. If a normal light can get stolen, it makes no sense that a dynamo light can't be stolen. Just saying there is supposedly a rule and then not explaining it makes no sense. I'll even do your work for you and look up the lumens for dynamo lights... and it looks like they have VERY poor reviews and do around 100 lumens which is on the very low end for normal bike lights. You are wrong on all counts.

@wimahlers I'll admit that is probably true, but the measure is if I think they are bright enough for me, not what 17 million Dutch are willing to settle for because they grew up with it that way. For lumens, 100 is not nearly good enough. My pocket keychain light can do better, 300 lumens for maximum of 30 minutes. So a bike light with large batteries 18650 could easily do 500 lumens and over 1000. Having too much is a matter of cost and battery time, unlike your video from the perspective of a stranger and his arbitrary assessment.

@wimahlers When I go to ride for fun, I don't need to ride at night. And if I'm commuting back from work there are no other bikers and my lights shouldn't be complained about when compared with the car lights on the same road. Safety and being seen by cars is more important than what some other cyclist may think. And if it was any real problem, I'm sure a high beam and low beam solution could be created, or use some sort of dimming function.

Let's plant a bunch of dangerous obstacles right next to the road! What could go wrong?
